GLEE CLUB

At a meeting of the M. C. M. Glee Club on Wednesday evening, October 24, Edmund Rasmussen was elected as the new manager. The advisability of the Glee Club’s taking part in the smoker program was also considered but because of the lack of men at the meeting and the lack of time to prepare anything, it was decided to be out of the question.

Mr Earle has communicated with Mr. Harry-King of Calumet by letter for the purpose of securing him to coach the Glee Club but has met with little success. The smoker of Friday, October 26, proved that talent is not altogether lacking at the college.

It is not in the least doubtful but that if a good leader could be secured, a good Glee Club would be assured.

MINING BUILDING VAULT

Definite requirements have not yet been obtained toward the building of a fire-proof vault for the mining building but it is thought that provisions will be made for one soon.

This vault would probably be a 3-storied structure joining onto the building at the west end of the north side and extending toward the site of the new metallurgy building. The three stories would allow a floor for records, etc.. one for instruments, and one for mining models.

ACTIVE WORK STARTS IN D1 AND D2

Mr. L. R. Harvey is drilling his freshman physical training classes in various corrective exercises and games. He will take up boxing, wrestling and other athletic feats. Before the end of the term he expects to give a smoker in connection with a gymnastic exhibition by the classes.

The second year men will have about the same class of work. They, however, will be given a more advanced course in all these exercises.

Lewd special satirical article: Huskies Ask

Disclaimer: This article is a part of The Lewd, a biannual satirical project put together by The Lode staff, typically published the week before finals. Opinions presented in these articles do not reflect The Lode values.

Huskies Ask is a weekly column where we send questions to different Michigan Tech faculty and staff.
This week, we reached out to Phil! Phil.

(1) Where is your hometown and when did you come to Michigan Tech?

Honestly, I’ve been here so long that I don’t remember where I came from. All I can remember is waking up one day and being a wooden bear in the Student Activity Office.

(2) What is your favorite thing about Michigan Tech?

My favorite thing is the janitors because they keep me company when students stop walking through the MUB. My second favorite thing is when the lights are on, because when they turn off, I’m afraid a student from NMU will steal me.

(3) What is something you wish students knew about you and your job?

My job is being a wooden bear. I want students to know that I’m here, and I want someone to talk to. I hear all their conversations, I know all the tea, but I have nobody to tell the tea to. (I won’t name names, but a certain staff member of a certain publication recently shit their pants)

(4) What is one thing that you wish you could do?

That’s a hard question. I wish I could do a million things, but I am just a wooden bear. So if I were to narrow those down, I would drink a refreshing Diet Coke (not sponsored).

Huskies Ask: Dr. Andrew J. Storer

Huskies Ask is a weekly column where we send questions to different Michigan Tech faculty and staff.

This week, we reached out to Dr. Andrew J. Storer, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

(1) Where is your home town and when did you come to Michigan Tech?

My hometown is the village of Blewbury in England, about 50 miles west of London. My high school was 10 miles north in Abingdon, and I went to college in Oxford, which is also nearby. I came to Michigan Tech in 2001 from UC Berkeley.

(2) What is your favorite thing about Michigan Tech?

My favorite thing about Michigan Tech is the people, especially our amazing undergraduate and graduate students. Their enthusiasm and energy for what they do is always inspiring! Walking on campus and hearing snippets of conversations about classes, student orgs, and issues of the day always reminds me of how important an engaged student body is to the university. Seeing their involvement is always inspiring because it shows how much students care about each other and the experiences of future Huskies!

(3) What is something you wish students knew about you and your job?

I hope that students know how much the faculty and staff care about them. They care about a student’s experiences at Michigan Tech, as well as their successes both here and in their careers. I see an important part of my role as facilitating opportunities for students to have the best experiences possible in their educational pathway at Michigan Tech.

(4) What part about your new role excites you most?

I am most excited about the opportunities to work with faculty, staff and students to keep the university moving forward on its positive trajectory. Being involved in discussions and decisions that are centered on what is best for the university and our students is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our continued success.
