There were many bracketologists across the country that treated the Gophers quarterfinal matchup with Wisconsin as a make-or-break game for Minnesota's NCAA Tournament hopes.
The Gophers now have to hope it wasn’t — otherwise, they’re broke.
Minnesota struggled on both ends of the floor en route to arguably its worst performance of the season in an 83-57 loss to Wisconsin.

Minnesota needed two wins over Penn State in a five day span — no one doubted that.
And the Gophers, who have been so up-and-down this season, delivered two solid performances to do just that — the second a 63-56 win over the Nittany Lions in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
“We found a way to get it done,” head coach Richard Pitino said. “ We found a way to get stops when we needed to, make big plays when we needed to.”

DeAndre Mathieu’s twin brothers and cousin made the trip up from Tennessee to watch him take on vaunted Indiana point guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell.
So he had to show out for them.
“You can’t disappoint your family,” he said after the Gophers 66-60 win over Indiana. “I had to go get after it and go at him.”
He certainly didn’t disappoint.
Mathieu poured in 16 points and tacked on five assists to lead the Minnesota (16-8, 5-6) over the Hoosiers on Saturday night at Williams Arena.

Frank Ragnow will strap on the shoulder pads for Arkansas, not the Gophers, next season.
Ragnow, a three-star offensive lineman recruit, announced his decision Friday afternoon at Chanhassen High School.
Ragnow was the third-best recruit in the state, according to Rivals.com, and was a priority on Minnesota's recruiting board this season. He had 17 offers from all across the nation but in the end it came down to three schools: Arkansas, Florida State, and the Gophers.
A chance to play in the SEC was too much to pass up.

Former Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson will enroll at Rutgers and will continue his collegiate career with the Scarlett Knights, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Rutgers ranked 62nd in the NCAA with 235.6 passing yards per game last season. Minnesota sat 115th with a measly 148.1 passing yards per game.

They weren’t about to let that happen again.
Minnesota rode a big performance from junior center Elliott Eliason and used some crucial plays down the stretch to pull away late en route to a 63-53 win over No. 11 Ohio State at Williams Arena on Thursday night.
