Minnesota's men's golf team is amid one of its best seasons in recent memory. It continued that trend this weekend at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Gophers finished third as a team with an aggregate score of 6-over par. Minnesota has now placed in the top three of a tournament three times this spring season. Iowa, the tournament host, finished 17 strokes ahead of Minnesota and won the competition.

Confetti rained down on the Wells Fargo Center ice in Philadelphia, but to the Gophers men’s hockey team, it might as well have been rain.
Minnesota lost 7-4 to Union in the NCAA final, ending a dream season in the sourest way.
Minnesota struck first about three minutes into the first period with a goal from freshman forward Justin Kloos. Union responded seven minutes later with a goal from Shayne Gostisbehere. Then about 40 seconds later, junior forward Sam Warning put the Gophers ahead again.

PHILADELPHIA — At first, reactions were predictable after Minnesota beat North Dakota in the waning seconds of the Frozen Four semifinal.
Gophers senior defenseman Justin Holl scored his first goal of the season with 0.6 seconds left in the game to give Minnesota the dramatic 2-1 win over its longtime rival.
Minnesota players mobbed Holl in a huge dog pile at center ice after he scored, while North Dakota players stood listless, lost.

The Gophers women's golf team was back at it over the weekend and tied for sixth at the Web.com Intercollegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Minnesota shot an aggregate 20-over par over the course of the three-round tournament. It finished more than 30 strokes behind champion Florida State. The Seminoles finished 24 strokes ahead of the second-place team.

Marlene Stollings is the new head coach for the Gophers women’s basketball program, University of Minnesota athletics director Norwood Teague announced Monday afternoon.
Stollings takes over as head coach less than two weeks after former head coach Pam Borton was fired on March 28.
“I am extremely proud to be named the head coach at the University of Minnesota,” Stollings said in a release. “Minnesota has a great tradition and I cannot wait to be part of it.”

NEW YORK — Austin Hollins last shot in a Gophers uniform was a beauty.
With the game tied at 59-59 and less than 50 seconds left in the game, Hollins rose up from beyond the three-point line and buried a triple to give his team a lead it wouldn’t relinquish as the Gophers topped Southern Methodist 65-63 to take home the NIT championship.
Not a bad way to go out.
“It was a big-time shot,” head coach Richard Pitino said. “That’s the way he should have walked away as a Gopher.”

The Gophers men’s hockey team advanced to the finals of the NCAA West Regional with dominant 7-3 win over Robert Morris on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
Minnesota will face either St. Cloud State or Notre Dame Sunday for a trip to the Frozen Four.
The Gophers shot out of the gates, but didn't get on the board until senior forward Nate Condon struck first about 16 minutes into the game. Condon went coast-to-coast and scored with a quick snap shot from just inside the blue line.
Then the floodgates opened.

The Gophers women's hockey team's unprecedeted three-year run through the NCAA tournament came to a heartbreaking end Sunday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
Minnesota fell 5-4 to Clarkson in the NCAA final — dashing the Gophers shot at a three-peat.
The Gophers jumped ahead early in the game, but every time they seemed to have the advantage Clarkson rebounded with a flurry of goals.
Minnesota entered the locker rooms at the second intermission with the score tied at 3-3 — perhaps right where it wanted Clarkson, the team with far less experience in big games.

HAMDEN, Conn. — The Gophers beat Wisconsin four times during the regular season season.
And on Friday night, with a trip to the national championship on the line, they did it once more.
Minnesota beat the Badgers 5-3 in the Frozen Four semifinals in Hamden, Conn., to advance to the title game for the third year in a row.
The Gophers have won back-to-back national championship and will go for a three-peat Sunday against the winner of the Mercyhurst/Clarkson matchup.

This Saturday’s NCAA quarterfinal matchup with Boston University was a win-or-go-home situation for Minnesota.
It seemed like going home wasn’t an option for Gophers senior forward Kelly Terry.
Terry extended her collegiate career for at least another game with a hat trick in Minnesota’s 5-1 win over Boston University.
