Two plead guilty in armed robbery of U students

Two men pleaded guilty earlier this month to robbing two University of Minnesota students at gunpoint over the summer, according to a press release issued Monday by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

Lavellle Grayson and Javonta Williams admitted on Dec. 12 to robbing the students in July.

Grayson was sentenced on the same day to four years in prison for aggravated robbery, the press release said, and Williams is expected serve three years in prison. His sentencing date is set for Jan. 16.

University names STSS building after former president

The University of Minnesota announced Thursday that it had renamed its Science Teaching and Student Services building Robert H. Bruininks Hall, after the University of Minnesota's 15th president.

The Board of Regents approved the building’s name change at its Dec. 12 meeting, according to a University press release.

Bruininks paved the way for the construction of the STSS building, which was completed during his presidency in 2010. He was also a leader in the construction of the TCF Bank Stadium and buildings in the Biomedical Discovery District, the release said.
