A large fire at a residential complex on Vermont Avenue and 37th Place Monday afternoon has been contained, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told the Daily Trojan. The blaze, which caused plumes of smoke visible from across campus, caused no injuries and did not damage the residential structure.

The fire originated from a shed or detached garage near the building and did not prompt an evacuation. Several USC students live at the complex.

An LAFD officer at the site described the fire as “suspicious” but did not identify a source. He said the LAFD has wrapped up its investigation.
