On Friday, former Cal women’s basketball guard Sara Anastasieska announced via Twitter her decision to graduate transfer to Duke to play her final NCAA-eligible year of hoops.

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Anastasieka played her freshman year at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) before transferring to Cal ahead of the 2016-17 season. The 5’11” guard played in 10 games as a redshirt sophomore before missing the entire 2018-19 season with a back injury.

This past season, Anastasieska finally hit her stride at Cal, averaging 7.8 points per game and finishing fourth on the team in scoring. Her most productive game for the blue and gold came in November of last year against then No. 5 UConn — Anastasieska shot 50% from three and finished the game with 25 points.

The sixth-year grad transfer will look to make an immediate impact on a Duke team that failed to crack the AP Top 25 poll last season.
