Cal women’s swimming and diving coach agrees to contract extension

  1. As one of the most accomplished figures in collegiate sports, it is no surprise that Cal wanted to extend longtime head coach Teri McKeever.

The contract will keep McKeever at UC Berkeley through the 2023-4 season, which would be McKeever’s 31st with the Bears. McKeever has led Cal to its most successful 20-year period in school history, as the Bears have finished as a top 10 team in the nation every season since the 1996-97 campaign and have placed in the top three a record 11 seasons in a row.

During her tenure, the Bears have also won four NCAA titles (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015) and four Pac-12 championships (2009, 2012, 2014, 2015). McKeever is also the reigning Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

Beyond the pool, McKeever has helped Cal women’s swim and dive with their academic success as they have had the highest GPA among the school’s 30 teams in three of the past four years.

The Bears are currently ranked the No. 1 team in the nation and will look to continue their dominance against Arizona and Arizona State on Jan. 24-25 at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
