Bay Area, Berkeley on ‘high wind watch’ this weekend

Parts of the Bay Area, including Berkeley, may experience increased winds this weekend beginning Saturday and ending Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service, or NWS.

The wind watch in Berkeley is expected to last from Saturday morning until late Sunday night, with winds blowing at 15 to 25 mph and gusting up to 45 mph, according to an NWS alert.

The “high wind watch” in the Bay Area, spanning from Sonoma and Napa counties through Monterey and San Benito counties, is expected to last from 8 a.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Monday, according to a tweet from NWS Bay Area.

Southeast winds of 15 to 30 mph, gusting up to 50 mph, are anticipated, which may cause fallen tree limbs and downed power lines, as well as possible isolated power outages, according to the tweet.
