12 a.m. 

U.S. Senate

Rick Scott defeats Bill Nelson in the race for U.S. Senate with 4.05 million votes (50.4 percent).

Chief Finance Officer

Jimmy Patronis (R) defeats Jeremy Ring (D) for the position of Chief Finance Officer for the State of Florida with 4.10 million votes (52.0 percent).

11 p.m.

Revision 10 – State & Local Gov Structure passed with 4.75 million votes (63.2 percent).

10:55 p.m.

Florida Governor

Ron DeSantis defeated Andrew Gillum for Governor with 4.01 million votes (49.9 percent), according to Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

According to the Republican Governor’s Association, at 10:46 p.m. ET, Gillum called DeSantis to concede. Ron DeSantis, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump for the majority of his campaign, will be the sixth straight Republican to be elected Florida’s governor.

Constitutional Amendment 1 – Increase Homestead Exemption failed with 3.22 million votes (41.9 percent).

Revision 7 – Survivor Benefits, Higher Ed passed with 5.03 million votes (65.8 percent).

Revision 10 – State & Local Gov Structure passed with 4.75 million votes (63.2 percent).

Revision 11 – Property Rights, Crime passed with 4.58 million votes (62.1 percent).

9:50 p.m.

Constitutional Amendment 2 – Limit Prop Tax Assessments passed with 4.6 million votes (66.3 percent).

Constitutional Amendment 5 – Supermajority for Tax Hikes passed with 4.63 million votes (66 percent).

Attorney General

Ashley Moody (R) defeated Sean Shaw (D) to win the election for attorney general with 52.5 percent of the vote.

9:45 p.m.

Florida Governor (93 percent reporting)

With 93 percent reporting, Ron DeSantis leads Andrew Gillum with a 96,000 vote lead (50 percent to 48.8 percent).

According to Ballotpedia.org, “Florida state law provides for automatic recounts when the margin of victory for a given office or measure is equal to or less than 0.5 percent of the total votes cast for that office or measure. If the margin of victory is equal to or less than 0.25 percent, a hand recount is ordered (automatic tabulators are otherwise used).”

U.S. Senate (95 percent reporting)

Rick Scott leads Bill Nelson by 75,000 votes (50.5 to 49.5 percent) with five percent of precincts left to report.

 

9:17 p.m.

Constitutional Amendment 3 – Voter Control of Gambling passed with 4.97 million votes (71.3 percent).

Constitutional Amendment 4 – Restore Felon Voting Rights passed with 4.49 million votes (64.1 percent).

Revision 9 – Bans on Offshore Drilling, Indoor Vaping passed with 4.7 million votes (68.2 percent).

Revision 12 – Lobbying, Abuse of Office passed with 5.35 million votes (78.6 percent).

Revision 13 – End Dog Racing passed with 4.71 million votes (68.6 percent).

U.S. House of Representatives

CNN has projected that Ross Spano (R) will defeat Kristen Carlson (D).

Florida Governor (79 percent reporting)

Ron DeSantis (R) is currently leading Andrew Gillum (D) 49.9 percent to 48.9 percent, according to the Associated Press. DeSantis currently has 3.83 million votes while Gillum has 3.75 million votes.

U.S. House of Representatives (44 percent reporting)

17 of the 27 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives have been called. District 15 which includes Polk, Hillsborough, and Lake Counties has not been called. Ross Spano (R) is currently leading Kristen Carlson (D) 53.1 percent to 46.9 percent, according to the Associated Press. Spano currently has 147,636 votes while Carlson has 130,157 votes.

U.S. Senate (85 percent reporting)

Rick Scott (R) has a slight lead over Bill Nelson (D) with 85 percent reporting. The Associated Press is reporting that Nelson is leading 51 percent to 49 percent. Scott has 3.85 million votes while Nelson has 3.79 million votes.

Florida Governor (30 percent reporting)

Andrew Gillum (D) is currently leading Ron DeSantis (R) 50.4 percent to 48.4 percent, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. House of Representatives (15 percent reporting)

17 of the 27 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives have been called. District 15 which includes Polk, Hillsborough, and Lake Counties have not been called. Ross Spano (R) is currently leading Kristen Carlson (D) 51 percent to 49 percent, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. Senate (39 percent reporting)

Bill Nelson (D) has a two point lead over Rick Scott (R). The Associated Press is reporting that Nelson is leading 51 percent to 49 percent.

CNN is reporting that Bill Nelson (D) is leading Rick Scott (R) in the race for U.S. Senate 52.8 percent to 47.2 percent with 14 counties reporting. Andrew Gillum (D) is leading Ron DeSantis (R) for the Governor’s seat 52.5 percent to 46.7 percent.

Florida polls located in the Eastern Standard timezone have officially closed.

6:22 p.m.

The Political Science department begins their watch party with presentations on close elections. The first presentation was on Kentucky’s sixth district by Julia Simpson and Zach North followed by a presentation on New Jersey’s third by Trevor Peters and Andrew Burnham.
