What to do with your leftover Halloween candy

So, why not throw those leftover candy bars into a brownie or mug cake? Maybe you can take the finished dessert over to a friend as they mourn their midterm grades.

Leftover Candy Box Brownies

What you’ll need:

  • Any boxed brownie mix along with the all the ingredients that are listed with that mix
  • Any leftover candy that is around
  • Baking pan and non-stick spray

What to do:

  1. Preheat oven to the temperature listed on the box
  2. Mix up the brownie mix as per the directions on the box
  3. Chop up the candy that is going into the brownies into smaller-than-bite-size pieces
  4. Spray a baking pan with non-stick spray
  5. Pour brownie mixture into the pan, add candy pieces on top and bake according to box
  6. Sprinkle the other half of the candy pieces on top of the brownies 5 minutes before they are done baking
  7. Eat the gourmet candy brownies that only took 40 minutes to make and taste way better than some basic candy you were never going to eat

Impossibly Easy Candy Mug Cake

What you’ll need

  • A mug
  • Boxed chocolate mug cake mix (Trader Joe’s)
  • Leftover candy (preferably something that melts well like Reese’s Pieces or Snickers)

What to do:

  1. Mix up the mug cake mix according to the directions on the box
  2. Chop up candy into roughly bite-size chunks
  3. Pour cake mixture into mug and microwave for the first half of the time listed on the box
  4. Discard the caramel that the box provides as the melted center and use candy pieces as a substitute
  5. Place candy pieces right on top of the half-cooked mixture and be sure not to push the pieces down
  6. Place the mug back into the microwave for the second half of the baking time
  7. Enjoy the Halloween-themed mug cake that took less than 2 minutes

Both of these recipes can be made inside any dorm or house that has an oven or microwave. There is no longer an excuse to throw away leftover Halloween candy when there are delectable baking options that take little to no time or effort.
