It’s the month of sun, and, thus, the month of skin. Wherever you go, you’ll see more flesh sweltering in the heat (perhaps more than you ever wanted to see). But if you’re ready to uncover the world, literally, there are a few pretty revealing things you just can’t miss.

Summer Nudes at the Russian Cultural Center

That’s right — nudes. State-of-the-art, oil-painted, thought-provoking nudes you might ever see. Created by, you guessed it, Russian-born artists Oleg Zakamorny and Olga Porter, the exhibit displays the naked images of real Houstonians. The Russian Cultural Center will hold this installation until July 20. It’s open with free admission Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is located at 2337 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77005.

Visiting Galveston

All month, the city hosts a myriad of ways to get your feet out the house and onto the sand. They’re pushing surfing lessons, live music, movies on the beach and even tours, both walking and by boat. Go out for a booze cruise, take a cooking class or learn the basics of geocaching. With plenty of less-popular beach space, Galveston is a great getaway from summer classes and it has plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained for days. Head south, take your shirt off and let the waves wash over you.

See “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”

If you haven’t caught this late-night cult classic yet, don’t fret. The River Oaks Theater has a brilliant tradition of performing the drag show live alongside the movie a few times each month. Presented by the entertainment troop The Royal Mystic Order of Chaos, actors will bare themselves onstage at midnight July 11 and 25.

Kayaking the Bayou

This activity doesn’t involve a whole lot of skin showing but, with the way the light beats down, you’ll need sunscreen at the least. Nearly every weekend in July, Bayou City Adventures hosts guided floating tours of different Houston water passages, ranging from about two to four hour trips, depending on the water level. The new three-mile Buffalo Bayou Park tour downtown is under construction but set to open later this month, barring any inclement weather interruptions. Visit the website for more information.
