“The Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries!”

If I were asked to describe my perfect night, it would be pretty easy. All I would need is pizza in one hand, an ice-cold beer in the other and, of course, a cult classic to watch. There’s much to admire about cult classics: their quotability, their intense fan base and their often odd humor that never gets old. Just thinking about some of these films gets me so amped, I could watch one right meow.

See what I did there?

If you have no idea what that reference is from, shame on you, because Super Troopers is one of the most precious gifts the early 2000s gave us. And similarly to my last post on Zoolander, it’s the perfect time to reconnect with this hilarious film, as the sequel is finally approaching!

It’s time for some more “cheeky and fun” shenanigans.

In impeccable cult classic fashion, Super Troopers 2 was entirely funded by fans, proving they have a loyal fan base that can’t get enough of the incompetent cops from Vermont.

If you need a refresher on what makes Super Troopers so fantastic, look no further.

The film focuses on five state troopers from Vermont who spend their workdays pulling mischievous pranks, hilariously terrorizing people they pull over and basically doing the complete opposite what they’re supposed to be doing.

Their jobs take a surprising turn in the midst of a murder, a mysterious drug smuggling case and the threat of their unit being shut down. However, even when they are working on some serious business, the film is anything but. It’s packed full of uproarious one-liners, absurd characters (sexually charged German car thieves, I’m looking at you) and a plot that becomes more ridiculous as it unfolds.

What brings Super Troopers above other comic cult classics is its fascinating back-story. While they may seem utterly idiotic and irresponsible, these five cops are actually the masterminds behind the entire film. Broken Lizard, a comedy group consisting of Jay Chandraeskhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, wrote and starred in it.  These men all met in a comedy troupe at Colgate University and decided to turn their love of skit writing and goofing around together into a career. They’ve written and starred in a few other films, but Super Troopers is their golden child.

Where the film thrives is the character development of the five main cops; it’s what made me watch it every night on Netflix for a straight week earlier this summer (though, I admit, that is a little excessive). Thorny has the appearance of a straight-edge policeman who you don’t want to mess around with, yet he has a knack for chugging maple syrup and hazing the new recruit, Rabbit.

Meanwhile, Rabbit (who I weirdly have a crush on) seems lovingly innocent but his sexual desperation and lack of common sense leads to some questionable decisions.

Then there’s Foster, who is the geekiest looking of the bunch, yet he somehow lands the hot lady cop.

And of course, there’s Mac; every word he says, prank he pulls and move he makes is side-splittingly funny. All you have to do is think about him and his bulletproof cup or him shouting “You boys like Mexico?” … and I bet you’re laughing to yourself as you read this.

Well, there’s also Farva but he sucks. He’s so hateable and awkward that I cringe every time he’s in a scene, so we don’t even need to talk about him.

If you haven’t seen this film (again, shame on you) or haven’t seen it in awhile, I assure you pulling up this baby on Netflix is a guaranteed 103 minutes you won’t regret.
