Acting senior vice president and provost Frances Bronet is leaving the University of Oregon.

Bronet has accepted a position as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the Illinois Institute of Technology, interim President Scott Coltrane said via email.

“It has been an extraordinary journey at the UO,” Bronet said. “With the unique opportunity to be a provost, I got a sense of how to lead an academic institute […] and I’m very excited to lead in a broader context.”

Bronet will leave the university once UO’s newly elected president Michael Schill assumes his role. Upon Schill’s arrival, Coltrane will also shift to his former position as provost. The UO is planning a national search for the new School of Architecture and Allied Arts dean.

“The loss that Frances’ departure represents to the University of Oregon cannot be overstated,” Coltrane said via the email. “Her contributions have been many and we will feel her lasting impact for years to come.”

Before her departure, Bronet plans to finish some projects, including a set of recommendations regarding student confidential policy at the Counseling Center.

Bronet said the university would be “well-served” under the leadership of Schill and Coltrane.

Bronet accepted deanship in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts in 2005 and was appointed to provost role in August 2014, when Coltrane took the Interim President position after Michael Gottfredson’s sudden resignation in August.

A previous version of this article said that the UO was going to be searching for a new provost, but the university will be looking for a new dean.
