The North Carolina Science Festival is an annual event that promises learning about all subject matters of science in an enjoyable and safe manor for all North Carolina residents. The festival is free of charge and will be held April 10-26.
For the fourth year in a row, UNC Charlotte will be hosting the Science and Technology Expo. In addition; however, UNC Charlotte is increasing its participation in the festival with a six-event science activity series, a three-event science and society panel series, two award-winning science documentary films and a the Star Party.
All of the events that UNC Charlotte will be hosting emphasize participation from festival attendees.
The Science Expo will feature several different events from multiple fields of science including chemistry, geology, biology, computer science and more. The expo features robotics, rocketry, live animals, lab experiments, explosive chemistry and vehicles. The Science Expo will remain to be UNC Charlotte’s final event. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m., April 26.
Also, at 8 p.m. April 24, UNC Charlotte will be hosting the North Carolina Science Festival Star Party. This is the first time that UNC Charlotte is hosting this event. It is free admission for the public; however, festival goers that wish to attend this event must register in advance.
The Star Party will teach participants about the stars, other planets and the galaxies that make up the universe. The Star Party will take place in the campus Observatory. In the event, that there is cloudy weather, the party will be postponed until a later date that has not yet been confirmed.
Another event hosted by UNC Charlotte is the annual Graduate Research Symposium, which takes place April 11. This symposium will allow attendees to explore the research that many of UNC Charlotte’s graduate students have been working on.
UNC Charlotte will also be showing two films inside of the Student Union Movie Theater. The mini film festival features “Shored Up” and “Particle Fever”. The first film is about global warming and rising sea levels. The second movie features discussions about the hunt for the Higgs Boson.
The movie festival will be one of the last events of the festival. The first movie will be played April 20 and the second movie will be played April 22. Both will show at 7 p.m. on their respective dates.
The LEGO robotics workshop is the one event during the festival that is not free and not everybody is able to participate in it.
