Kyle Kearns-who is ranked a 4-star quarterback by ESPN and Rivals-commited to Wake Forest today. The Pleasanton, CA., native will only be Wake’s third scholarship quarterback on the roster.

With early enrollee Kendall Hinton already at Wake Forest, combined with Kearns’ commitment, it is logical to assume that there is going to be a quarterback competition this summer and fall. Based on researching Kearns, we have put below a quick scouting bio.

What he does well:

• Decent size: He is listed as 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-2 depending on which site you go to. He is not a physical freak, but this is much better size than either of the incumbent John Wolford or Kendall Hinton.
• Good anticipation, and like Wake’s other quarterbacks, is supposed to have  a good mental makeup
• Consistently accurate, even on the run, and shows the ability to put touch on the ball
• Extensive experience playing under center
• Above-average arm strength
• A good athlete for a pocket passer, but certainly not dynamic
