CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State had four players score in double-digits as the No. 11 Beavers stomped the Ducks 70-37 in the 93rd meeting between the two rival programs before 7,652 at Gill Coliseum on Friday night.
The Ducks fell to 8-6, 1-2 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon State improves to 13-1, 3-0.
Lexi Bando finished with team-high 10 points while chipping in four rebounds. Jillian Alleyne finished with six points and 16 rebounds while Megan Carpenter tallied eight points and five rebounds before fouling out with 3:34 left in the game.
Lexi Petersen and Katelyn Loper both finished with five points apiece.
“They really took it to us tonight,” Oregon head coach Kelly Graves said. “That was a piece of humble pie right there. They beat us in every phase. He out-coached me, they out-played us. They killed us on the boards. The only good thing is we get to play them in two days. Hopefully we can get this taste out of our mouths.”
The Beavers outscored the Ducks 37-21 in the second half to secure the victory.
Oregon shot 24.1 percent from the field on 14-of-58 shooting and attempted a season-low three three-pointers. The Beavers finished 37.3 percent from the field on 25-of-67 shooting.
The Ducks were outscored 19-4 in second-chance points and 31-8 in points off the bench.
“I hope they’re really disappointed in the effort and the outcome,” Graves said. “I don’t think anybody thought we were going to come in and beat these guys today. So, there wasn’t really any pressure on us. That’s why I don’t understand why we were so tentative.”
Jamie Weisner and Samantha Siegner both finished with 11 points for the Beavers. Ruth Hamblin tallied nine points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in 26 minutes.
“Ruth [Hamblin] and Jillian [Alleyne], it’s like a heavyweight fight down low,” Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. “Those are two elite centers that neutralized each other a lot tonight.”
After exchanging opening buckets, the Beavers went on a 12-0 run to bring their lead to 17-6 with 7:21 left to play in the first. Oregon answered with a run of its own to cut the deficit to 20-10 with 6:18 left to play.
Oregon State finished off the first half on a 9-2 run to stretch their lead to 21 at the half, 33-16.
The halftime deficit was the second largest of the season for the Ducks.
Oregon State led by 36 with 2:22 to go in the game, the largest margin in the 40-minute contest.
“Thought it was a great defensive performance,” Rueck said. “That crowd was incredible. That’s why we dod what we do. That’s why I came here, to see that.”
The Beavers outscored the Ducks 37-21 in the second half to secure the victory. The Ducks now lead the series 59-34 all-time.
Oregon State will travel to Eugene on Sunday for the second of back-to-back games. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
“I think Sunday will tell me a lot about what kind of a team I have,” Graves said. “I think it will say something for the rest of the season. If we come out and compete—win or lose—and play our butts off, then I think we’ve got a shot of having a pretty end of the year. If not, then I’ll have to make other adjustments I guess. I think it’s critical.”
