Letter to the Editor: Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils respond to ASUO grievance

The Fraternity and Sorority Life community supports any individuals who have aspirations to become leaders on campus or in the community. That being said there is no limitation or judgment for members of our community to run on any ASUO campaign slate they so chose. The comments made by Marshall Kosloff were unacceptable. He has portrayed the FSL community in a false light in order to better his own personal and political interest. None of what he said about blacklisting or chartering is true.

Marshall Kosloff’s comments regarding how sororities “blacklist” during recruitment are disrespectful to the organizations as well as the specific individuals involved. Each organization values a fair recruitment process for every potential new member and under no circumstances would any sorority reject an individual from either participating in recruitment or having a just selection process. The discussions of politics and personal relationships are strictly against the UO Panhellenic Association Code of Ethical Recruiting and therefore not tolerated in any sorority recruitment activity or membership selection decision.

Marshall Kosloff has no experience on Interfraternity Council nor does he understand the voting process for full membership of IFC. He has falsely discredited IFC through his hollow threat to Thomas Tullis and to Delta Upsilon. Presidents would not vote to restrict full membership to a colony for a member’s involvement with the ASUO.

It is fair to note that Thomas Tullis mentioned that he had followed steps for conflict resolution such as having his campaign manager contact the IFC President. Under no regard did Thomas Tullis try to undergo conflict resolution through IFC. His campaign manager notified him to contact Chase Salazar, the IFC President, which he never followed through with.

The real victims here are the individuals and organizations who are mentioned by name that do not have a part in this ASUO political conflict. As IFC and Panhellenic Council presidents our most sincere apologies go out to the individuals who have been hurt by this case. Our hope is that moving forward, these issues can be resolved by a simpler matter that takes full advantage of the IFC and PHC conflict resolution process.

Sincerely,

Chase Salazar and Morgan Plew
IFC and PHC Presidents
