Relay squad earns fastest time of season at Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi’s

The UH track and field program wrapped up its largest home meet of the season, the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi’s, on Saturday evening in the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

The men’s 4×400-meter relay team ran its fastest time of the season to win the Howie Ryan Invitational with a time of 3:17.94. Freshman Cameron Burrell led off the relay, followed by Xavier Boyd, Jermaine Fyffe and Dominique Charles anchoring. It is now the third-fastest time in the American Athletic Conference.

Junior John Horton had a career day as he jumped a personal best 7.35m (24’-1.50”) to win the long jump.

Freshman Chris Morales finished in second place in the heptathlon (4,771 points) after finishing day one tied for seventh. Morales ran an 8.72 in the 60-meter hurdles for a personal best and vaulted 4.45 meters (14’-7.25”) in the pole vault to tie his collegiate best. He ended the competition with a time of 3:00.89 in the 1000-meter.

In the women’s 3000-meter, freshman Janae Bottoms was the top collegiate finisher in third place with a time of 10:07.53. Junior Taylor Beer (10:18.26) followed in fourth. Sophomore James Broussard (8:46.13), freshman Gabe Lara (9:16.66) and sophomore Zach Stewart (9:21.34) improved their times in the men’s 3000-meter.

Sophomore Trevor Walker (4:23.90) and freshman Matthew Parmley (4:36.45) recorded personal best times in the men’s mile run.

In the 60-meter hurdle finals, junior Sade Mariah Greenidge shaved time off her season best with a second place finish (8.43). Sophomore Issac Williams also improved his season time with a third-place finish (7.92).

Junior long jumper Alicia Perkins made it into the top three with a leap of 5.79 meters (19’-0”). Teammate Junior Dominique Brisco recorded a personal best of 5.67 meters (18’-7.25”) to place fifth in the competition.

Junior Samantha Taylor threw a season best of 14.51 meters (47’-7.25”) in the women’s shot put to take third in the competition.
