At approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, a fire broke out at the Campus Twins apartment complex on 14th Ave. and Alder Street.

Several members of the Eugene Fire Department said there were no injuries, and there is no known cause.

Apartment resident and UO student John Queant kicked down the door to apartment 2A and saw the fire in the corner.

“I saw the fire and it looked like a little almost like campfire in the corner of the room,” Queant said. “It was right on the wall.”

Queant ran out of the building without shoes or his phone.

An EPD officer said Eugene Water and Electric Board shut down power to the area temporarily.

“I know a girl got stuck in the third floor and they sent a ladder and fire fighters in to get her, but I went screaming and hitting all the doors to make sure everyone was out. I hope they all got out — I’m pretty sure they’re all okay,” Queant said.

Wenliang Wei lives two doors from the source of the fire. When she heard people yelling about it, she packed her backpack with her computer, cell phone and portable PlayStation and left the building. Wei is an international student. Her passport is still inside her apartment.

Lucas Thompson, one of the apartment’s residents, said, “This couldn’t have happened at a worse time. I mean it’s bad that your apartment burns down but it’s like almost finals week and I mean there’s a whole lot of crap that did not need to happen right now.”

The fire has been contained and the Eugene Fire Department has left the scene.

Some local businesses offered assistance to residents of the complex who were on the street during efforts to contain the fire. Employees of Rainbow Optics passed out coffee and employees of the Excelsior Restaurant and Lounge passed out blankets.
