Oregon Ducks vs. Washington State Cougars play-by-play

Play-by-play from today’s game at Autzen Stadium, where the No. 2-ranked Ducks face off against the Washington State Cougars.

First Quarter

On Oregon’s first offensive possession Marcus Mariota sprinted past the Cougar defense for a 57-yard touchdown run. Two point conversion attempt was no good. 6-0 Ducks. 

Byron Marshall pounds the ball two yards for a Ducks touchdown with 8:43 left in the first quarter. PAT Good. Ducks 13-0. 

Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday connects with Gabe Marks on a short screen that he extends into a 39-yard gain that pushes the Cougars deep into Oregon territory.

Halliday finds Dom Williams in the far left corner of the end zone for a 11-yard touchdown pass. PAT Good. Ducks 13-7.

Byron Marshall rushes 26 yards for a touchdown on the Ducks’ ensuing drive. The drive took all of 49 seconds to complete. PAT Good. Ducks 20-7.

Second Quarter

After he makes a 20 yard diving catch to bring the Ducks to the 1-yard line, Thomas Tyner plows through the gut for a 1-yard touchdown run. PAT Good. Ducks 27-7. 

Vince Mayle catches a Connor Halliday pass and gets to the 1-yard line where Erick Dargan forces a fumble that would be recovered by Rodney Hardrick in the end zone for a touchback.

Ioane Gauta sacks Marcus Mariota and the ball squirts free, eventually recovered by Kache Palacio of Washington State. Cougars take over at Oregon’s 33.

Halliday throws a 12-yard touchdown pass to River Cracraft in the right corner of the end zone to cut the Oregon lead to 13 with 6:10 left in the first half. PAT Good. Ducks 27-14.

On the ensuing drive, Washington State defender Darryl Monroe forces Mariota’s second fumble in two drives. Xavier Cooper recovers and runs 41 yards for a touchdown. PAT Good. Ducks 27-21.

After bouncing outside, Tyner cuts up the field and out-sprints the Washington State defense for a 66-yard touchdown. PAT good. Ducks 34-21.

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu intercepts a Halliday pass in the back of the end zone to give the Ducks the ball back with 1:58 remaining in the second quarter.

Byron Marshall catches a Mariota pass on 4th down and takes off for 35 yards, but fumbles at the Washington State 12 and the ball is recovered by the Cougars.

Andrew Furney kicks a 49 yard field goal as time expires to cut the lead to 10 heading into the halftime break. Ducks 34-24.

Marcus Mariota: 270 yards passing, 58 rushing yards and one touchdown, two fumbles,

Third quarter 

Byron Marshall rushes for 37 yards to open the second half, putting Oregon into Washington State territory.

Keanon Lowe receives a screen pass from Mariota and follows his blockers into the end zone for a 11-yard touchdown pass and catch. PAT Good. Ducks 41-24. 

Avery Patterson picks off Connor Halliday across the middle of the field and returns the ball for 19 yards, giving the Ducks offense the ball at their own 39-yard line.

Marshall rushes 30 yards for his third touchdown of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd Quarter. PAT Good. Ducks 48-24. 

The Ducks defense forces another turnover. Derrick Malone picks off a Connor Halliday pass to position the Oregon offense at their own 25.

Fourth Quarter

Mariota scrambles outside of the pocket and hits wide receiver Josh Huff who then extends his way into the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown pass. PAT Good. Ducks 55-24.

Terrance Mitchell intercepts a Connor Halliday pass and runs 51 yards for a touchdown. PAT Good. Ducks 62-24.

Jeff Lockie enters the game, ending Marcus Mariota’s night.

Connor Halliday connects with Gabe Marks for a 6-yard-touchdown pass. PAT Good. Ducks 62-31.

Jake Rodrigues takes over at quarterback with under four minutes to go in the game.

Halliday hits Bobby Ratliff in the far right corner of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass, his 89th passing attempt of the game. PAT Good. Ducks 62-38.
