Pac-12 Round-Up: How the rest of the Pac-12 performed in week 5, Lane Kiffin fired

Offenses were on display throughout the Pac-12′s slate of games Saturday.

Arizona State and quarterback Taylor Kelly led the scoring barrage with 62 points against University of Southern California. Sean Mannion and the Oregon State Beavers lit up the Colorado secondary as the Beavers improved to 4-1 on the season. Bishop Sankey was the workhorse for the Washington Huskies, rushing 40 times for 161 yards and a touchdown in a victory over Arizona. Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan continued to prove his status as one of Pac-12′s elite, throwing for three touchdowns in a blowout win over Washington State. UCLA and Utah both didn’t play this weekend.

No. 5 Stanford 55

Washington St. 17

While Kevin Hogan was busy dominating the Cougars’ secondary, the Cardinal defense had its fair share of fireworks. Trent Murphy and Jordan Richards both returned interceptions for touchdowns as Stanford improved to 4-0 on the season. The Cougars couldn’t stop anyone on defense, as the Cardinal amassed 560 total yards of offense. Devon Cajuste led the Cardinal in receiving, catching four balls for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday finished 24 of 36 for 184 yards and an interception before leaving in the second half.

Oregon St. 44

Colorado 17

Sean Mannion absolutely dismantled the Colorado secondary. The nation’s leading quarterback, in regards to passing yards, added to his season total throwing for 414 yards. His six touchdowns set an Oregon State school record. Brandin Cooks caught nine passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns as the Beavers improved to 4-1 on the season. Buffaloes quarterback Connor Wood struggled against the Oregon State secondary, completing 14 of 34 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Beavers running back Terron Ward totaled 158 yards, including 103 yards receiving.

No. 16 Washington 31

Arizona 13

For Washington, if all else fails, give Bishop Sankey the ball. The Huskies’ workhorse carried the ball 40 times for 161 yards and one touchdown as Washington handled the Arizona Wildcats 31-13. The weather was a factor, especially in the passing game. Keith Price completed 14 of 25 for 165 yards and two touchdowns. B.J. Denker struggled from the get-go for the Wildcats. His first pass of the game was intercepted by Washington’s Sean Parker. Ka’Deem Carey also ran the ball well, totaling 132 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. The loss was the first of the season for Arizona, who fell to 3-1. The Huskies remain undefeated after the victory, improving to 4-0.

Arizona St. 62

USC 41

The Lane Kiffin era at USC has come to a close. In his final game as head coach for the Trojans, Arizona State outlasted USC in a high-scoring shootout. Sun Devils running back Marion Grice accounted for four touchdowns. Taylor Kelly threw for 351 total yards and three touchdowns, out-dueling Trojans starter Cody Kessler, who passed for 291 yards and two touchdowns. Alden Darby had two interceptions for Arizona State, including a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown. With the loss, the Trojans fell to 0-2 in the Pac-12. ESPN reports that Kiffin was fired at the Trojans’ private airport terminal in Los Angeles when the team plane returned from Tempe. Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron will take over as interim head coach.
