Freeman is garnering national attention after an impressive showing at Nike’s The Opening, a showcase for the nation’s top football recruits. He was ranked as high as second best running back in the 2014 class by some scouts.

Freeman received offers from many schools, including most of the Pac-12 as well as perennial Southeastern Conference powerhouses Alabama and Florida.

He is a big body who should be able to make an impact early. Listed at 227 pounds, experts are already comparing him to past Oregon backs; notably LeGarrette Blount and Jonathan Stewart, due to his physical running style.

The commitment by Royce Freeman marks the fourth time in five years that the Ducks landed a five-star running back; with the likes of De’Anthony Thomas, Lache Seastrunk and Thomas Tyner rounding out the list.
