Reports of New York Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni’s departure from the team surfaced Wednesday afternoon.
Minutes later, Kentucky head coach John Calipari jumped out in front of any potential rumors — and over the past few years, there’s been a lot of them, especially concerning the Knicks — and reaffirmed his desire to stay at UK.
“As I’ve said before, I have the greatest job in basketball at any level. Why would I be interested in another job?” Calipari tweeted. “I love being the coach of the commonwealth’s team. To the #BBN& all the recruits that are coming or want to come, I will be at Kentucky.”
About an hour after that, Calipari was asked at an NCAA Tournament press conference if the possible rumors would be a distraction.
“Every job that’s open, including high school and AAU jobs, my name is mentioned,” Calipari said. “So no. I just wanted to say, I have a great job. The best in the profession.”
