FSU’s Fisher stresses consistentcy following Tuesday scrimmage

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher found himself looking for more consistent play from his squad following Tuesday’s full-pad scrimmage–the last scrimmage of preseason camp–inside of Doak Campbell Stadium.

Fisher acknowledged that both the offense and the defense made some big plays during the contest, but neither side was able to maintain a high level of execution throughout the afternoon.

“Big plays on both sides, not enough consistency,” Fisher said afterwards. “That was it. Both sides gave up big plays. It was a feast or famine deal. Need more consistency out of both sides. […] That’s the good thing–some big plays. You just got to get more consistency.”

The offense continued to battle through injuries that have plagued the offensive line throughout fall camp, and Fisher described the play of his O-line as average on Tuesday. Although none of the injuries are serious at this point, the offensive line has been without two of its anchors–tackles Andrew Datko and Zebrie Sanders–for much of camp. Those two have since returned, but Datko was held out on Tuesday due to soreness.

David Spurlock has also been working his way back from concussion issues that began last fall.

Fisher was not worried about the status of the line heading into week one, however, when asked if the injured players would be back for the September 3 bout with Louisiana-Monroe.

“Oh, they’ll all be back.”

The Seminoles will take Wednesday off before a two-a-day session on Thursday.
