Former U. Kansas Athletics employee pleads guilty, faces up to 30 years in prison

Former U. Kansas associate athletics director Charlette Blubaugh has pleded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud in the on-going federal prosecution of several former athletics ticket managers.

Blubaugh began to steal tickets from the office to sell to brokers beginning in 2005, according to her plea agreement, accepted today in a Wichita court.

Fellow employees Brendan Simmons, Jason Jeffries, Ben Kirtland, Rodney Dale Jones and Kassie Liebsch were also involved in the conspiracy to illegally sell sporting event tickets, resulting in more that $2,000,000 in personal profits for the conspirators, the agreement continued.

Jones and Liebsch have already pleded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy. Jeffries and Kirtland have pleaded guilty not to taking part but to failing to report the activities. Kirtland is expected to face trial beginning March 8.

Blubaugh faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.

Blubaugh’s husband, Thomas, was given consultant status in athletics and paid an annual salary of $115,000. Thomas Blubaugh is expected to enter into a plea agreement Friday.
