Sources: Florida players damaged locker rooms

Amid controversy, the University of Florida Gators may have left more than an unanswered wish for a victory in Doak Campbell Stadium after Saturday night’s Seminole victory.

Several reliable sources close to the Athletic Department at Florida State University, including an individual directly linked to resources, say that the University of Florida football team is responsible for vandalizing Doak Campbell’s visiting locker room after its 31-7 loss to the Seminoles, the first in six years. The damages were said to include dented lockers, soap dispensers that were ripped off of shower walls, and several broken chairs that had been thrown across the room. One source alleged that the departing team left dirty towels and garbage strewn about the floor. FSU maintenance reportedly cleaned up the disarray soon after it was discovered.

Despite this information, some FSU officials maintain that no vandalizing took place after the game.

“Rumors fly…it’s a rival game,” Director of Sports Information Elliot Finebloom said when asked about the incident.

Finebloom stated that the University of Florida had been contacted and had been advised that no damages took place. Rob Wilson, who works for the Athletic Department, said in an article for the Orlando Sentinel that the rumors were “‘considerably’ overdone.” Athletic Director Randy Spetman could not be reached for comment.

“More than anything, I want to know if it happened or not,” FSU student Zach Laughlin said. “I feel like if [the Seminole Football team vandalized property] at the University of Florida, it would be all over the news; I want to know that if it’s true, the Gators will get the kind of media coverage they deserve.”
