University Police participates in drunk driving crackdown

U. of Nebraska-Lincoln Police joined several other agencies in the national “You Drink & Drive. You Lose. Crackdown,” running Aug. 20 through Sept. 6. UNL Police has now received the final statistics of its efforts in the campaign.

The campaign:

The Nebraska portion of the national “You Drink & Drive. You Lose. Crackdown” was funded by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. It organized multiple agencies in an effort to increase traffic enforcement with zero tolerance for impaired driving. The increased enforcement lasted Aug. 20 through Sept. 6.

Organizations involved:

Nebraska State Patrol, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln Police Department, University Police. Six UNL officers worked a total of 102 hours over the course of the campaign.

Citations:

27 citations for speeding

6 arrests for driving while intoxicated

1 arrest for drug possession

1 citation for driving under suspension

3 citations issued for driving without proof of insurance.

1 arrested for outstanding warrant

1 citation for no authorized license on the person

7 citations for minor in possession

49 total citations issued during campaign

31 warnings issued during this campaign
