Washington U. football opens season with a bang

By Sahil Patel

The Washington U. football team got its 2010 season off to a great start Saturday night, defeating Knox College 34-3 thanks to an all-around dominant performance. While the offense rolled up 435 yards en route to four touchdowns and scores on their first six possessions of the game, the defense stifled the Prairie Fire’s offensive attack, holding Knox in negative yardage until just 6:32 left in the first half.

Senior tailback Jim O’Brien led the way offensively with 104 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone, and senior quarterback Steven Sherman connected on his first ten passes for 91 yards, finishing 16 for 21 with 159 yards and a touchdown.
