UPDATE: Quizno’s is toast

By Chris McDonald

As many returning students have already realized, Vanderbilt U.’s two beloved Quizno’s franchises have indeed vacated their premises in Towers and Highland Quad.

Vanderbilt Dining has not yet made any statements regarding the change, and with good reason — they were just as taken aback as the students.

Camp Howard, Director of Vanderbilt Dining, recently spoke about the change: “Basically, we haven’t made any official announcements because there is not a lot to report right now,” he said.  “It completely caught us by surprise.  We weren’t expecting this at all – we were expecting them to come back.”

Mr. Howard explained that contrary to what many think, the two Quizno’s lcoations are not in fact run by Vanderbilt Dining.  Instead, they are run by a franchisee – everyone’s beloved Tom – with whom Vanderbilt contracts.

When it came to the ultimate decision for the two franchises to cease operations at Vanderbilt, Howard clarified that, “We were just alerted to the fact that our local Quizno’s franchisee would not be able to operate our two locations in August… Typically, contract cancellation is 90 days, but of course that didn’t happen.”

For now, the future of Quizno’s at Vanderbilt isn’t clear.  Whether a new franchisee opts to run the locations or new restaurants are installed remains to be seen.

What is certain, however, is that Vanderbilt Dining is doing everything in their power to quickly address the issue.  Howard reiterated, “It’s really out of our control, but we are trying to make it right.  We are doing everything we can to see what we can do to provide student services in the facilities.”

Updates will be provided as new information is made available.
