Police: Visitor to Penn State U. Old Main lawn found with marijuana

By Casey McDermott

A visitor to Old Main Lawn was arrested at early Saturday morning after he was found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the Penn State U. Police said.

Merlin Bahr, of Westbrook, Maine, is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Police said Bahr has no affiliation with the university.

Police said they arrived at Old Main Lawn at about 2 a.m. in response to reports of illegal fireworks, where they found Bahr and a small group of people igniting them.

Police said they spoke with Bahr at the scene and determined he was in possession of drugs and drug-related paraphernalia. No charges were filed in connection with the illegal fireworks, police said, and Bahr is the only one who has been charged in connection with the incident.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 18, police said.

Police said they have no information that indicates that Bahr had any previous criminal record in his home state.

A Penn State spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
