Gilmour named interim president of Wayne State U.

By Karl Henkel

Allan Gilmour, former chairman and CFO at Ford Motor Co., was named interim president of Wayne State Tuesday by the Board of Governors, effective Aug. 30.

“Allan will be an incredible, amazing interim president,” Board of Governors Chair Richard Bernstein said. “He recognizes how administrative processes and university processes work.”

Though the Board previously said it was going to go through a more comprehensive search for an interim president, Bernstein recommended Gilmour just four days after former President Jay Noren’s resignation officially took effect.

Gilmour, 75, began working at Ford in 1960 and was twice the vice chairman of the company, first from November 1992 to January 1995 and later from May 2002 until February 2005.

He has also worked as the director and presiding director of Whirlpool Corp. and on the Universal Technical Institute’s Board of Directors.

Gilmour holds two degrees: a bachelor of arts in economics from Harvard and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
