Power to be reduced in buildings; warmer temperatures likely

By Shawn Wright

Students, staff and faculty will experience temporarily warmer temperatures in various university buildings after being asked by the Detroit Public Lighting Department, which supplies electricity to Wayne State, to reduce power consumption.

The reason for the energy conservation request is due to low voltage conditions, according to an e-mail sent by Jim Sears, associate vice president of Facilities Planning & Management.

The university and all affected buildings will remain open, and classes will continue as scheduled, according to the e-mail

Some of the roughly 48 buildings affected are: Old Main, Physics Building, Science Hall, State Hall and the Student Center Building. For a complete building list, please refer to the right of this or article or click here.

“University personnel can further assist by turning off lights, copy machines, and other office equipment not in use,” Sears said in the e-mail. “We will provide provide updates as appropriate. Thank you for your patience.”
