MTSU students to pay higher tuition this fall

By The Sidelines Staff Report

The Tennessee Board of Regents unanimously voted on Friday to increase tuition rates by an average of 6.3 percent for more than 72 percent of university and community college students next year.

The tuition increase is a response to state budget cuts and an attempt to recover 80 percent of lost state funding and inflation costs, according to a TBR press release. These increases are designed to ensure that combined costs for students taking more than 15 hours are less than 10 percent.

Full-time MTSU students’ attendance costs will be 5.2 percent more than they were during the 2010 spring semester, amounting to a $120 increase.

The tuition rate for students taking 15 hours will rise by 7.8 percent, adding an additional $204 per semester. A 10.2 percent increase will make students enrolled for 18 hours pay $276 more per semester.
