Former safety Chad Jones has successful surgery, according to reports.

LSU dual-sport athlete Chad Jones is resting after being released Friday night at 6 p.m. after an eight-hour surgery, according to The Advocate.

Jones, a third round draft pick of the New York Giants, was involved in a serious car accident early Friday morning on Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans.

The surgery was to repair his leg and ankle. Two other male passengers were in Jones’ 2010 Range Rover, but neither were injured, according to The Advocate.

Jones was returning to New Orleans after attending organized team activities with the Giants.

The Advocate reported that the long-term diagnosis of Jones is unclear, but he will face a steep recovery period.

The Baton Rouge native doubled as a star safety on the gridiron and a pitcher for the LSU baseball team, earning national titles with both.
