Winkler will get start against No. 6 UCLA

By Ryne Sulier

The No. 6 seeded UCLA (49-14) will face TCU (52-12) Monday at 8 p.m. on ESPN2HD.

TCU will start Kyle Winkler (12-1) against Bruins’ starter Gerrit Cole (10-3). Winkler out-dueled Texas pitcher Brandon Workman to clinch TCU’s first College World Series berth in a 4-1 victory over the Longhorns in the final game of the Austin Super Regional.

“I haven’t seen UCLA…in person, but a lot of the other teams I know a lot about and I really don’t think we’re going to see as a pitching in Omaha as (we saw in Austin),” said TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle. “There’s going to be no pitcher in Omaha better than Taylor Jungmann or a closer better than Chance Ruffin.”

There probably won’t be a pitcher much better than Workman in the CWS, either. Workman was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round in 2007 and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2010.

Cole comes in to Monday’s game with a 3.25 ERA, compared to Winkler’s 2.84 ERA.

Bad Weather Causes Bracket 2 Rescheduling

The Oklahoma-South Carolina lasted over 12 hours because of rain and lighting delays in Omaha, Neb. Sunday. The game, which ended in a 4-3 Sooners victory, was originally set to precede the Arizona State-Clemson game.

The Arizona State-Clemson game will begin Monday at 10 a.m. on ESPNU and ESPN3.com.
