Iowa City police say they have discovered a false report of sexual abuse.

In February, Elizabeth McDonald provided police with a detailed written statement about an alleged incident of sexual abuse by her ex-boyfriend, according to a police report. During the investigation, police say, they discovered McDonald had been untruthful in her report.

According to police, McDonald enlisted the help of current boyfriend Matthew Nutter to intimidate the alleged suspect. McDonald and Nutter went to the victim’s workplace March 22 and made contact with him, police say.

The two were seen by witnesses and later identified by the police. McDonald told the police that her ex-boyfriend had sexually assaulted her, according to police.

A recorded call was made to the alleged suspect in which McDonald admitted that she had made up the allegations in order to get back at the defendant, police say.

During an interview the victim admitted to police that she had made a false report, according to police.

McDonald was charged with making a false report of an indictable crime, and Nutter was charged with third-degree harassment.
