No. 14 Minnesota will look to continue its best season ever this weekend with a three-game tilt against Wisconsin at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
The Gophers lost 9-3 to the Badgers in last year’s Big Ten championship game. This year, junior infielder Tyler Walker said the series is about a lot more than the famed Border Battle between the two schools.
“We’re out for revenge,” she said. “It’s not about the Border Battle. It’s about the battle we had with them last spring in the title game.

This fall, Dave Searle was attacked with a hammer.
The man who attacked him made away with $20 in cash, Searle’s bicycle — which he recovered after chasing the man down — and an order of Jimmy John’s
sandwiches.
Searle, a Jimmy John’s delivery employee, has his share of stories from his time on the job.
Employees from restaurants around the University of Minnesota area, who deliver everything from sandwiches to pizza, on bicycles and in cars, have seen it all — injuries, odd customers and even run-ins with the law.

State leaders are urging Minnesota colleges and universities to publish safety records of study abroad programs, citing poor safety and the need for transparency between schools and the public.
While the University of Minnesota says it already does its best to ensure students’ safety, many agree the change is necessary and students and parents will benefit by having access to evaluate the risks in global areas.

A Michigan-based environmental nonprofit is claiming it found high levels of arsenic in a University of Minnesota Gophers key ring purchased from a major retailer on the Twin Cities campus.
Officials from the Ecology Center tested 65 different fan products from 19 different universities for toxic substances, like lead, arsenic and mercury. Of those products, 46 contained at least one or more chemicals they said were a “concern,” including a University-branded key ring purchased from the Walgreens on Washington Avenue, though the test’s validity has been disputed.

After an academic year marked by worries about crime, University of Minnesota student groups and administrators are partnering to award students who can come up with ways to stop crime.
Student groups Co-Lab and The Echo Spot founded the monthlong Crime Innovation Contest, which begins Wednesday, in response to a spike in violent and brazen crimes during the fall semester.

Come fall, University of Minnesota graduate students will be among the first in the nation to take part in a survey measuring their experience at research institutions.
In an effort to better understand graduate students’ issues, outcomes and overall experience, the University will pilot a graduate-level version of the Student Experience in the Research University, or SERU, which was previously available only to undergraduates.

On the dance floor at Blarney Pub and Grill early Sunday morning, Augsburg College student Tina Angok’s phone was stolen from her purse.
Blarney security monitor Kyle Andersen said he was watching a man who appeared “suspicious” and that he noticed him take a cellphone from Angok’s purse.
Andersen said he followed the man and notified the head of security, who called the police and held the man there until police arrived.

Soaring over local fields to collect research data, unmanned aircraft vehicles operated by University of Minnesota students and faculty members are entangled in drone debates at the Capitol, leaving some researchers concerned.
State leaders are set to restrict drone activity this legislative session, citing privacy concerns. But some University researchers who use the unmanned aircraft say they use them strictly for academic reasons, so they shouldn’t be subject to the proposed limitations.

Since his sophomore year ended, junior Ellis Mannon hasn’t been able to clinch the top spot.
Mannon took second on the pommel horse at the 2013 Big Ten meet, the 2013 NCAA meet and the 2014 Winter Cup.
And even though he put up a big score of 15.95 on the apparatus at the 2014 Windy City Invite, he again fell just short of a title.
