School leaders questioning tenure faculty ratio

By: Haley Hansen

The ratio of tenure and non-tenure track faculty at the University of Minnesota is a delicate balance, which some say isn’t watched closely enough.

Though University policy states the majority of each college’s teaching staff should comprise tenured faculty, some professors say the rule is unclear and has gaps that could cause some departments to have an uneven distribution of tenure and non-tenure track faculty.

Dr. Date

Dr. Date,

I had sex for the first time over the weekend, and I’m feeling really guilty. I was raised in a very religious household, and I’ve been taught that sex should wait until marriage. On top of that, the guy I did it with isn’t even my boyfriend or someone I have feelings for. It just happened spontaneously, and I regret it. How can I cope with how I feel?

By: Keelia Moeller

Loretta Lynch is currently running for attorney general, making history as the first African-American woman to be nominated for the position.

Last Wednesday, Lynch announced her support of President Barack Obama’s policies on immigration, tiptoeing around aspects of the situation that might turn away her supporters.

When she approached the subject of immigration itself, the Republican Party went into an immediate state of outrage, turning Lynch into a punching bag for the president’s executive order on immigration.

Drones are the future, DC must catch up

By: Anant Naik

When most people think of a drone, they have an image of a long, slender, plane-like craft armed with weapons or surveillance gear in the depths of the Middle East or Africa. This is fairly consistent with their portrayal in the media, which often suggests that the ability to control aircrafts remotely is dangerous.

University students lend hand to local middle school’s STEM program

By: Danielle Korby

University of Minnesota honors students spent some of last week in classrooms at Minneapolis’ Ramsey Middle School to help bolster the school’s elective STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math, program.

The volunteer program is unique because the University students work with middle school students in their classrooms, rather than tutoring after school, said Minnesota Student Association president Joelle Stangler, one of the program’s creators.
