Back in November, the Gophers shipped off three players to compete in the Four Nations Cup for the United States national team.
Consequently, Minnesota played its series finale against Bemidji State without three of its best players, resulting in a rare 1-0 loss.
Earlier this week, sophomore Dani Cameranesi, redshirt sophomore Lee Stecklein and junior Hannah Brandt were all named to the U.S. national roster for the International Ice Hockey Federation women’s world championships.

The Gophers’ defensive renaissance started in the first period against Ohio State.
It was the second shift in the game, and sophomore forward Hudson Fasching took a puck to his body to block a shot.
Fasching’s small act of selflessness energized his entire team.
“At that moment, the whole bench got up and was excited,” senior forward Travis Boyd said after the team’s second game against the Buckeyes. “It was kind of like, ‘All right, we’re going to do the little things this weekend.’”

Amanda Zahui B. scored only eight points in Minnesota’s last game before fouling out.
She more than made up for that Tuesday, scoring 39 points and recording 29 rebounds in the Gophers’ 93-80 victory over No. 13 Iowa.
“Some of these things are just unprecedented. She’s a sophomore, and she’s doing things that are unheard of. She’s the total package,” head coach Marlene Stollings said.
History hasn’t been hard to come by for the Gophers this season, and Tuesday was no exception.

A 17-second span in Minnesota’s game against Iowa last Thursday showed Charles Buggs’ pure talent yet revealed why he’s still far from a polished
player.
Buggs stole the ball from Gabriel Olaseni with just more than a minute remaining and Minnesota clinging to a five-point lead. After Iowa point guard Mike Gesell fouled Buggs to stop the clock, Gophers center Mo Walker ran over and put his right arm around his teammate in adoration.
“I just told [Buggs], ‘Way to play. Keep your head up,’” Walker said.

Seven years after the University of Minnesota Board of Regents adopted a plan to turn school-owned land into a sustainable community, it decided against being the area’s major developer.
Regents on Friday approved a plan to sell the 5,000-acre UMore Park on recommendations to sell the land and have local governments and private buyers develop it. This modified approach also ensures the University is still able to access the land, which is near the southeastern suburbs, for agricultural research.

When the federal government enacted Title IX in the early 1970s, around 90 percent of the head coaches for women’s sports teams were females.
But since then, the number of female head coaches has dramatically decreased nationwide.
However, the University of Minnesota bucks this trend with more than 57 percent of women’s sports coached by females, ranking it fifth in the nation in a study released earlier this month.

People too young to vote, have their own insurance or order something from an infomercial are proving they aren’t too young to have a voice in climate change efforts — even legal ones.
Akilah Sanders-Reed, an environmental studies junior at Macalester College, sued New Mexico in 2011 when she was 17 over the state’s obligation to protect air quality. Though she initially lost the case, it has now entered the state’s appeals court where the first ruling could flip.
