Just days after the Gophers’ 1-0 loss to Bemidji State in the semifinals of the WCHA tournament, head coach Brad Frost sat his team down and went over each missed scoring opportunity.
There were 21.
“That’s a lot. I’ll take that most nights if we are getting that many chances,” Frost said.
What Frost won’t take is another game where those scoring opportunities don’t yield goals — especially if that game comes on Saturday against Rochester Institute of Technology in the national quarterfinals.

Minnesota sent three divers to the NCAA championships last season.
This year, eight Gophers qualified at the NCAA Zones, a three-day event that wrapped up on Wednesday.
A rule change effective this season broadened the NCAA championships field.
Now, any diver placing in the top 12 of any event in the NCAA Zones — 1-meter, 3-meter or platform — can dive in all three at the NCAA championships without qualifying for the specific event.
Diving coach Wenbo Chen said the new rule makes it fair for everybody.

Selection Monday is less than a week away, and Minnesota head coach Marlene Stollings is confident her team will appear on the bracket.
“We feel very secure in getting an NCAA bid,” Stollings said after Minnesota’s loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten tournament. “You never really know until selection Monday, and we realize that. But we feel that our tournament resume is extremely solid with the 23 wins, where our RPI is.”

CHICAGO — Minnesota spent more than 20 minutes of play going back and forth with the worst team in its conference on Wednesday night.
Then the Gophers (18-14, 6-12 Big Ten) received a spark from an unlikely character — junior forward Joey King — running past Rutgers for a 80-68 victory in the first round of the Big Ten tournament to set up a Thursday night contest with Ohio State.
“[It’s] another opportunity at life,” senior guard DeAndre Mathieu said. “It’s life or death right now.”

When it comes to global warming discussion, many people think the climate will exclusively rise in temperature and at a consistent rate.
And any time it doesn’t, some want an explanation.
The speed at which the earth has been warming has noticeably slowed since about 1998, scientists say, even though last year was the hottest year on record. Some scientists attributed the slowdown to the natural randomness of global temperature, which paved way for climate change deniers to doubt the science of a warming planet from human activity altogether.

Carlie Wagner set foot on the Williams Arena court last month with a ball in hand.
The Gophers were more than 32 minutes away from the beginning of practice and the eager freshman was already on the court.
It wasn’t until more than 15 minutes later that another player set foot on the maroon-bordered surface.
Throughout Wagner’s life, she has been a motivated athlete.
As she progressed throughout high school, she played in three varsity sports, and her dedication to academics and athletics separated her from the rest of her class.
