GHC’s Davenport and Diokpara named GCAA Division I Players of the Week

Georgia Highlands College’s Kyvon Davenport has been named the GCAA Division I Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 30 for men’s basketball. Davenport was nominated for this because he had an average of 20.5 points and 8 rebounds for two wins during a week.

GHC’s Pam Diokpara was named GCAA Division I Player of the Week for women’s basketball for the week of Jan. 30. Diokpara was chosen for this because she had 16 points and 12.5 rebounds during a week for two wins.

Georgia Highlands College Lady Chargers defeat Albany Tech

The GHC Lady Chargers defeated Albany Tech 63-59 on Feb. 1. The women are now 7-1 in GCAA conference play. They are still ranked 2nd in the GCAA.

During the game, Taylor Farley led the Lady Chargers. She contributed 16 points for the win. Farley also had 3 steals and 4 assists. Pam Diokpara finished right behind Farley with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The next game for the Lady Chargers is on Friday, Feb. 10 against Central Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. in Warner Robins, Ga.

Georgia Highlands College Chargers get 22nd win of the season on the road

The GHC Chargers men’s basketball team defeated Albany Tech 114-78 on Feb. 1 to make their overall season record 22-0.

In this game, Ty Cockfield and Rico Bonds each scored 23 points. Massamba Dioum contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds.

The next game for the Chargers is on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. against Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga. The team’s next home game will be on Saturday, Feb. 18 against East Georgia State College at 4 p.m.

Chargers win 50 in a row

 

The Chargers’ men’s basketball team earned their 50th consecutive win on Jan. 11 by defeating Atlanta Metropolitan State College 97-55.

Head Coach Phil Gaffney said, “We feel honored and humbled to win our 50th consecutive game. It is an amazing achievement, and it will be fun to reflect on it once the season is over. Right now our focus is on winning our conference, the GCAA, and winning a National Championship.”

Kyvon Davenport led the Chargers with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ty Cockfield had 20 points and Antonio Wade had 15 points.

The Chargers’ next home game will be on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. against South Georgia Tech.

Lady Chargers go 2-0 in GCAA Conference play

The Lady Chargers defeated Atlanta Metropolitan State College 79-66 on Jan. 11 at the Floyd campus gym.

Pam Diokpara led the Lady Chargers with 28 points and 19 rebounds. Briana Davis contributed 13 points. Taylor Harris and Maria Crider each had scored 10 points.

The Lady Chargers are now 7-11 for the season. They are 2-0 in GCAA Conference play. The team’s next home game will be Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.

Chargers defeat Gordon State

The Georgia Highlands College men’s basketball team defeated the Gordon State Highlanders 87-71 on Jan. 4 at the Floyd campus gym.

Ty Cockfield led the Chargers with 17 points. Kyvon Davenport had 15 points. Ty’lik Evans contributed 13 points for GHC.

The Chargers are now 15-0 for the season. Their next home game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. against Atlanta Metropolitan State College.

The Chargers defeated Albany Tech 93-50 to win their first GCAA conference game of the season on Dec. 10.

Ty Cockfield and Rico Bonds led the Chargers and each contributed 16 points. Kyvon Davenport had 15 points.

GHC’s next game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Gadsden State in Gadsden, Ala at 8:30 p.m. EST. The next home game will be on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Chargers win first GCAA conference game of season

The Lady Chargers defeated the Albany Tech Lady Titans 59-54 to win their first GCAA conference game of the season on Dec. 10 at the Floyd campus gym.

Pam Diokpara led the Lady Chargers with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Maria Crider finished right behind Diokpara and contributed 12 points.

The women are now 4-7 for the season. Their next game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Gadsden State in Gadsden, Ala. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Lady Chargers’ next home game will be on Monday, Dec. 19 against Wallace State Hanceville at 1 p.m.

Chargers win to make record 11-0

The GHC Chargers defeated Lawson State Community College 98-68 on Dec. 6 to make their record 11-0 for the season.

Ty’lik Evans led the Chargers with 22 points. Ty Cockfield contributed 19 points and Kyvon Davenport had 15 points.

The Chargers’ next home game will be on Saturday, Dec. 10 against Albany Tech at 4 p.m.

Lady Chargers fall to Lawson State

The Lady Chargers lost 66-60 to the Lawson State Community College Lady Cougars on Dec. 6 at the Floyd campus gym.

GHC has had many injuries recently and only had 7 players who were able to dress out for this game.

The women were led by D’Andra Pringle with 12 points. Kanisha Tharpe had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kateryna Khomenko contributed 11 points for the Lady Chargers.

The next home game for the Lady Chargers will be on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. against Albany Tech in the Floyd campus gym. This will be their first GCAA conference game of the season.
