Though seven years have passed since Jeff Allen’s first project released an album, he hasn’t stopped writing music.
The Plastic Constellations —a successful indie power-pop rock group from Hopkins, Minn. — made its punk-y exuberance known in the mid-90s. But before the group’s release show for its album “We Appreciate You” in 2008, the band announced an indefinite hiatus.
Since then, guitarist and songwriter Allen started a family and swapped dueling guitars for more lyric-based, acoustic-heavy songs.

Eclecticism defines the Seward neighborhood’s dining presence in the Twin Cities. There’s no rhyme or reason to the restaurants that dot the corners on Franklin Avenue, 25th Street and other thoroughfares aside from their personalized funkiness.
Based on this criterion, it makes perfect sense that Cafe Racer Kitchen put down its brick-and-mortar in the area. Owner Luis Patino and crew first made their culinary waves on the local food truck scene with their Latin American street food several years ago.

After receiving applause from a packed audience at Jazz Central, Larry McDonough and his quintet decided to bring their Chet Baker tribute concert to the Dakota Jazz Club.
McDonough, an adjunct law professor at the University of Minnesota, will play a concert honoring Baker’s music at the Dakota Jazz Club on Thursday.
McDonough banded together four other Minnesota musicians for the occasion: trumpeter Steve Kenny, saxophonist Richard Terrill, bassist Greg Stinson and Dean White on drums.

While making his rounds in Dinkytown, local independent filmmaker Al Milgrom, 92, stopped at a campus luxury apartment complex to discuss his latest film, “The Dinkytown Uprising,” with the building’s developers. He said he was shocked by their lack of knowledge regarding the area’s provenance.
“I said, ‘Do you know much about Dinkytown?’” Milgrom said. “Just [at] the mention [of] the word ‘Dinkytown’ they did a double take. They didn’t know that this was some historic community — for them, it was just putting up a high-rise as part of their corporate structure.”

The self-proclaimed “greatest rapper in the world” rocks dad jeans and likes to play softball.
It all started when Neal Medlyn, a.k.a. Champagne Jerry, went to a party with his friend Bridget Everett. Medlyn found a bottle of champagne and drank the whole thing as he walked around the party in a poncho, Everett said.
That night, he turned into Champagne Jerry.
“It’s about trying to be as fancy as you can even though you’re probably not all that fancy and thinking that you’re awesome even though you’re probably a fuck-up,” Medlyn said with an endearing Southern drawl.
