By: Tyler Gieseke

University of Minnesota police are working with the FBI after a suspicious bag found in Coffman Union prompted the building’s closure Monday.

Barricades blocked both footbridges leading to the student union Monday afternoon, and yellow tape kept students and employees away from the building. Officials said it’s safe to reopen Coffman on Tuesday, although the investigation into the suspicious package and who put it there is still ongoing.

New track faces opposition in St. Paul

By: Ben Gotz

The University of Minnesota athletics department is still searching for new location for its track and field facilities, as the current space could be displaced by a new proposed athletics village.

Jon Steadland, a spokesman from University President Eric Kaler’s office, said Tuesday evening school leaders are considering a combined facility with the Gophers soccer team near the St. Paul campus. Another potential option would displace parts of the historic Les Bolstad golf course, but not the land that makes up the course’s driving range.

Regents push back new consent policy

By: Christopher Aadland

University of Minnesota leaders are asking for more discussions before implementing the proposed revamp of the school’s sexual consent policy.

University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler agreed to postpone enactment of the revised policy — which would require all parties engaged in a sexual act to give consent beforehand and also changes language about relationship violence and sexual assault —  after the Board of Regents requested more time to talk about the proposed changes at Wednesday’s meeting.

Mistakes admitted in second University drug trial

By: Christopher Aadland

For the second time this year, the University of Minnesota has admitted to mistakes in the treatment of a Psychiatry Department drug trial patient.

The admission came a day before the Board of Regents held a public forum — the second forum held at the University last week — to allow the public to voice their opinions of the school’s human subjects protection programs and planned reforms. The forums were announced last March in the wake of two reports that scrutinized the school’s research practices.
