Sydney Hall residents notified of measles exposure, case no longer infectious

Hennepin County health officials sent a letter notifying residents of Dinkytown's Sydney Hall apartment complex that they may have been exposed to a case of the measles through contact with an ill resident of the building.
 
This case of the highly contagious virus is no longer infectious, the letter said, but residents may have still been exposed between Jan. 20 and Jan.

Environmental scientist appointed as CBS dean

After more than eight months of searching, the University of Minnesota has picked Valery Forbes to be the new dean of the College of Biological Sciences on Thursday.

Forbes has previously been the director of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, according to a press release. She'll begin her tenure as dean July 31, pending approval from the Board of Regents.

University will undergo investigation for alleged Title IX violations

A federal office will investigate a complaint alleging that the University of Minnesota has discriminated against women on the basis of gender, according to a government document and a press release.

The complaint was filed with the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to explore whether the school had violated Title IX, which protects against gender-based discrimination.

University hospital set to provide Ebola care

The University of Minnesota Medical Center has agreed to care for patients diagnosed with Ebola, the Minnesota Hospital Association announced Friday.

The West Bank hospital is one of four health care facilities in Minnesota that will provide treatment for the deadly virus if a case is diagnosed in the state.

No cases of Ebola have been confirmed in Minnesota.

Reports of sexual harassment, retaliation shake women’s gymnastics team

A former volunteer assistant coach for the University of Minnesota women’s gymnastics team quietly resigned last fall amid a school-led investigation of his behaviors with team members, some of whom allege he repeatedly sexually harassed gymnasts.

Jim Stephenson spent more than two decades at the University and previously held the title of head coach.

Head women’s gymnastics coach resigns

Head women’s gymnastics coach Meg Stephenson has resigned, the University of Minnesota announced in a release Thursday afternoon.

The resignation comes after two University-conducted investigations into “student and employee complaints about the program,” according to the release.

Obama speaks at Lake Harriet

In his address to 3,500 people at the Lake Harriet Band Shell late Friday morning, the president claimed that the GOP blocked or voted down “every single serious idea to strengthen the middle class.”

Kill announces “Chasing Dreams” fund for epilepsy

The first time Gophers head coach Jerry Kill had a seizure, his wife Rebecca didn’t know what to do.

“It’s hard because you are having to see your loved one go through something like that, but you also have to be the one there to help them get through it,” she said in front of a packed crowd at Kieran’s Irish Pub on Thursday. “It’s not easy.”
