Green Line collaboration wraps up work

As Metro Transit’s Green Line light rail celebrated its two-year anniversary, a group that helped make the project possible ceased operations for good.

The Central Corridor Funders Collaborative — comprised of 14 local and national organizations — held an event to recognize the investments made in the communities surrounding the Green Line corridor since its opening.

Minneapolis approves paid sick-leave

The Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously approved an ordinance that will provide paid sick and safe time for most Minneapolis workers.

The vote at Friday’s council meeting drew cheers and a standing ovation from supporters at the meeting. The ordinance has been opposed by some business owners who say the requirement will hurt business in the city.

Regents hear pushback on proposed tuition hike

For the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents, the docket has been chock-full.

On top of approving Mark Coyle as the next Gophers athletics director, the board heard public feedback on the University’s proposed budget, discussed additional board oversight of the athletics department and reviewed proposed changes to the Student Conduct Code at its meetings Thursday and Friday.

Search for missing U student continues

More than 70 police officers from several agencies scoured Dinkytown and University of Minnesota area Friday in an unsuccessful attempt to locate a University student missing since Tuesday.

Friday’s “grid search” follows a wide-ranging search conducted with boats, helicopters, drones and K-9s Thursday to locate David Miller, a third-year student in the College of Biological Sciences. Miller, 20, was last seen leaving Wilkins Hall at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

University student reported missing

A University of Minnesota student went missing Tuesday night, according to the University of Minnesota Police Department.

David Michael Miller, a third-year student in the College of Biological Sciences, was last seen leaving Wilkins Hall at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Miller’s roommates reported him missing Wednesday afternoon, said UMPD Chief Matt Clark at a Thursday press conference.

Clark said Miller’s parents and roommates believe his disappearance is out of character and there is no reason to suspect foul play or self-harm.

Athletics Director finalist hopes to create a culture of accountability

Mark Coyle, a former Gophers athletics administrator, is poised to become the next University of Minnesota Athletics Director.

On Wednesday afternoon, University President Eric Kaler named Coyle the athletics department’s next leader, pending Board of Regents approval. As part of a five-year contract, Coyle’s base salary will amount to $850,000 per year — nearly double that of former Athletics Director Norwood Teague.

Finalist announced for Gophers AD job

A lone finalist has been announced in the search for the next University of Minnesota Athletics Director.

University President Eric Kaler announced Wednesday morning that Mark Coyle was poised to become the school’s next leader of Gophers athletics.  

From 2001 to 2005, Coyle, was the University’s associate athletics director for external relations, where he managed marketing, sales, communications, the ticket office and licensing.

Gophers basketball player released from jail without charges filed

Criminal charges against a University of Minnesota basketball player were deferred pending further investigation, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Gophers men’s basketball player Reggie Lynch was released from Hennepin County jail Tuesday at noon after the decision was announced. Lynch was arrested by the University of Minnesota Police Department at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at his Wilkins Hall apartment on probable cause for criminal sexual conduct.

Lynch allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman in his apartment three hours before his arrest.

Gophers basketball player arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

A University of Minnesota men’s basketball player was arrested Sunday on suspicion of sexual assault and is being held in Hennepin County Jail.

Reggie Lynch was arrested by officers from the University of Minnesota Police Department Sunday afternoon on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct at his apartment. As of Monday afternoon, Lynch had yet to be formally charged and was being held without bail in Hennepin County Jail, according to county records.

Kaler rolls out tuition hike proposal

Tuition will increase nearly 10 percent for some students at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus if a plan proposed Friday is approved by the Board of Regents.

University President Eric Kaler’s proposal calls for a 9.9 percent hike for nonresident, non-reciprocity undergraduates, a 2.5 percent increase for resident undergraduates and increases between .5 percent and 5 percent for graduate and professional students.
