Fact: Pumpkin Spice isn’t just found in lattes

The star of fall, pumpkin spice has officially flown off the handle this year. Essentially, everything edible has made a special edition flavor that will soon disappear as quickly as the leaves on the trees. Some are good, others are bad, but most are overrated. Try these if you dare and see for yourself which of these will make the cut onto your shelf this year.

Pumpkin Spice Oreos: Wait, but wasn’t there crème in the middle before? Is it pumpkin crème now? See for yourself but I’m sure “milk’s favorite cookie” can do no wrong.

Pumpkin Spice Eggos: Without a doubt, you know these sweet breakfast treats would be deadly. It’s almost like taking the flavor of pumpkin bread and turning it into the greatest thing that’s ever happened to your toaster.

Jet-Puffed Pumpkin Spice Mallows: I don’t even know how to feel about these. Definitely one of those things that sound so bad it’s good. Would probably only try these if I lost a bet.

Pumpkin Spice Bagels: These bad boys, toasted with butter, sound like all of my dreams have come true in the carb world. If you’re feeling really bold, pair it with Philadelphia Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese. Yes, it actually exists and yes, it sounds scandalous.

Pumpkin Spice M&M’s and Hershey Kisses: Talk about one hell of a game changer in trick-or-treating this year. I can see it now — “I’ll raise you five pumpkin spice M&M’s for your Snickers…”

Pumpkin Spice Pringles: These sound almost as good as those Cappuccino Lay’s potato chips. Almost.

Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax Granola Bars: A healthier option would be these granola bars made with pumpkin spice and pumpkin seeds. But then again, it’s Kashi, which usually tastes straight-from-the-dirt healthy. I’ll just stick with the sweet stuff.

Cedar’s Pumpkin Spice Hummus: So you’re telling me the usual chickpea spread is now mixed with pumpkin? And cinnamon? No. Go home, pumpkin spice. You’re drunk.

Trader Joe’s Honey Roasted Pumpkin Spice Ravioli: Sounds deadly. Since pumpkin is a vegetable, if it’s not cooked out to be too sweet it goes surprisingly well in pasta. It’s kind of like having squash with your food, or yams. Cheers to mushy orange vegetables that we eat just to feel festive because — fall.

Pumpkin Ale: Multiple beer companies make a “harvest” or pumpkin ale every fall, which is surprisingly very popular. But for some, it’s too sweet to play a round of beer pong with — so, next time your friend is holding one, try a sip of theirs before buying a six pack for yourself.

Pinnacle Pumpkin Spice Vodka: The Pringles sound more promising at this point.

Pillsbury Pumpkin Spice Cookies: Your favorite “I’m going to make cookies, actually I’ll just eat all of the dough instead” company just changed the game. Slow clap for the Pillsbury Doughboy.

Which of Your Favorite TV Characters Should You Be for Halloween?

This far into October, you’ve probably already read dozens of BuzzFeed articles, made Pinterest boards and Googled images for Halloween costume ideas, so be ready to add this list to your agenda. Here are some descriptions and photo examples to get your creative gears spinning.

American Horror Story — Depending on which season’s your favorite, some interesting options range from the Rubber Man (season 1) to the ladies of the Coven (season 2) and even to one of the performers on it’s current season of Freakshow (season 4). Many of these items can be pieced together from your own closet. However for Rubber Man, I’d search websites like Amazon or Party City to find a real costume.

The Walking Dead — If you’re feeling the zombie vibe this Halloween, take a look into some heavy makeup. But, there is also the grunge I-just-killed-14-zombies-in-a-row kind of look that involves a lot of rugged clothing. Bonus points for dirt makeup and fake blood to give that vibe of just coming off the battlefield.

iBreaking Bad — Feel like dressing up as a baggie of meth, or the man who made it? Both are simple, but even better, you can even make most of these costume pieces with random items found in your home. Except for the yellow suits, it would be a good idea to look at a home improvement store instead.

Game Of Thrones — Go big or go home for this one. When you’re shopping, look for wigs and neutral colored clothing that can be reshaped or ripped. Best bet for finding pieces like this? Buffalo Exchange or the new H&M.

Orange Is The New Black — For a more personalized twist on the already classic inmate costume, try adding one of the characters names to your orange jumper or even wear a specific accessory that defines a particular character on the show.

Pretty Little Liars — At a glance, you may think this would be too complicated to dress up for, but in actuality, it’s the easiest. Dress up as “A” with black clothes, shoes and a killer red trench coat — bonus points if it comes with a matching hood. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to wear a sign with one of the various “A” quotes on it.

Fall’s Hottest New Drama: Why “How To Get Away With Murder” is Killing It

Caution, spoiler alerts ahead:

ABC recently premiered it’s newest drama; you know, that one we saw previews for all summer with that One Republic song and Viola Davis furiously writing on a chalkboard, being a woman boss as per usual. Yes, the academy award nominee stars in ABC’s new hit drama titled “How To Get Away With Murder.”

Like many of us college students who don’t have the luxury of owning DVR recording device, we huddled around at exactly 10 p.m. to watch the premiere, and you know that any show with the word “murder” in the title is going to hook you within the first two minutes. Sure enough, the opening scene shows four college students in a park, late at night, fighting about what to do with a body that apparently they just did the dirty deed of killing off. As I was yelling “Wait, who is that?! Who did they just kill?!” the show cuts and starts again with that “three months earlier” hook, and boy did they hook me. Well played ABC, well played.

The puzzle pieces slowly come together as we find that the same four students from the opening scene are all students of high profile law professor, Professor Annalise Keating, played by Davis. The threads of mystery begin to unravel faster and faster as it is revealed to the audience who these characters are and more importantly, their secretive relationships with one another.

Out of a giant lecture hall, Professor Keating selects a handful of her best students to join her firm, which includes our four students from the opening scene. Their task is to join Professor Keating on whatever is her current case, contributing information. Over the course of the season, whichever student presents the most valuable tactics to defending her client is awarded with a gold statue, one with a woman blindfolded, holding a scale, classic symbol of law. Possession of this statue buys his or her way out of an exam. So now there’s stiff competition between all of the selected students and the audience is left to decide whom they want to root for, but more importantly, whom they can really trust.

The pilot episode ends with the victim of the murder from the opening scene being revealed who happens to be Professor Keating’s husband who she also happened to be cheating on with one of the detectives on her case. But that secret is just the tip of the iceberg. We find that each of our four protagonists, the students, each holding a secret as well. Student Wes Gibbons is convinced that he was only selected for Keating’s elite group because he knows about her affair. Similarly, Rebecca Sutter believes she was only selected due to the fact that Keating’s TA has interest in dating her. Pretty boy, Connor Walsh, uses his relations with other men to get one step ahead on clues and information. And lastly, Michaela Pratt is the prime teacher’s pet that will do anything to win this cutthroat competition. If you’re into drama and murder, be sure to check out this new show right after “Scandal,” Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.

Live From New York: Winning tickets to SNL is like winning the lottery

“There’s a twenty-five year waitlist to be audience member at an SNL taping,” they said. “You have a one in a million chance of seeing that show live.”

Then it happened. Three weeks ago, I received an email from NBC titled “RESERVATION.” It said something along the lines of “congratulations … you and your guest won … October 4th … Sarah Silverman and Maroon 5 …” or at least that’s how I remember reading it before I blacked out from shock. So we did it. No second thoughts. I skipped school. My older sister Melanie skipped work and we flew to New York City to see our favorite show since we were kids.

These tickets were won in a lottery NBC does every August. In fact, my sister sent me the link as a total shot in the dark. I sent NBC my contact information – no age, ethnicity or even a photo. The winners receive an email three weeks before the show they were selected for. That’s it. Pure luck. Everyone has a fair shot.

We headed over to 30 Rockefeller on the night of the show, and while we were checking in we were sent to a shorter line than everyone else. At this point, my heart stopped. I knew right then Melanie and I were going to be seated on the floor. I’m pretty convinced that all of the luck for my lifetime was used in this single pop.

I had no idea how quickly a live show hauls ass when it’s show time. Dozens of technical directors and stagehands were running around, ripping sets apart and throwing new ones together in minutes. There were three stages. Around the floor, sets were built for more sketches. Most of the audience didn’t have perfect visibility of every set, so there were screens conveniently set up to watch the real deal as it aired.

As for the cast and guests, and even executive producer Lorne Michaels, they couldn’t have seemed more humble about what they do, always smiling and ready to go. As the stressed stage manager would yell “TEN SECONDS!” they would just laugh and say something like “alright, let’s do this!” I hope none of them saw me as they passed – I was visibly drooling.

If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it now. And if you happen to catch my sister and I for half a second as host Sarah Silverman begins her opening monologue – don’t look too closely. We were probably crying out with pure joy that our childhood fantasy was finally taking life: seeing “Saturday Night Live” LIVE.
