Video: Fate of the campus trees after the ice storm

Due to the weight of ice buildup on the campus tree limbs, University of Oregon campus exterior supervisor, Garrick Mishaga, at one point heard a tree limb fall every ten minutes over the past weekend. As part of the campus operations, Mishaga explains the damage caused to the campus trees after the ice storm and what is to come next for the trees after the official damage assessment is completed in the next couple of days.

As of Tuesday afternoon about 150 trees have been logged onto the assessment where 25 of those trees are classified as severe; 50 of which are considered a top priority. Mishaga estimates that a couple dozen trees will have to be removed due to excessive damage. As of Tuesday afternoon, the assessment is only a couple of days away from completion and will include the total cost of the storm damage for the university. Since the restoring process is still underway, students can follow the progress at UO Alerts for safety updates and maps of high catuion parts of campus.
