Thoughts About Relationships from the Opposite Sex

Logo Credit: Gabrielle Dondici

My oh my what a time to be alive! We finally found out who our next president will be. If that is not a relief then I don’t know what is. Things were a little sketchy for a second there, but we prevailed! It was one of those “where were you when this happened” moment for sure. So, to close out a great week, we present you with a great two-part episode.

This episode answers the age-old question “what does the opposite sex think.” You must believe me when I say this was a very entertaining episode to do. We took questions from you, our followers, as well as questions that we made up on our own. Questions ranged from as simple as “why do guys hock loogies?” to as thought-provoking as “do girls hate falling in love with the wrong person as much as guys do?”

Listen, this episode is filled with all of the tea. It was a great introspective look at how the opposite sex thinks and handles things differently. Full credit goes to Liz for this idea, because lord knows I would not be able to think of something as juicy as this. Since so much content was covered, we had to break it down into two episodes, so the next one will come next week!

As always, thank you so much for all the love and support! Shoot us a DM on IG @aintthat_something to give us your input on this episode! Stay positive, everyone!

Brandon and Liz.

One Remainder Rumbling, Three Searching for more Answers

This past week, Mark and Jair briefly discussed the situation within the MLB Free Agency. Trevor Bauer is now officially the 2020 National League CY Young Award winner and he’s one of the biggest Free Agents on the market. Jair explains why he doesn’t want his New York Mets to sign Bauer.

Two more big names on the market are J.T. Realmuto and George Springer. Both are being sought after by the New York Mets and several other teams.

In this pandemic, what’s going to be very interesting is to see the MLB Free Agency and NBA Free Agency take place at the same time.

Meanwhile, for the NBA it isn’t exactly the most exciting Free Agency class of all-time, but there are some interesting decisions that can be made by the available players.

Players like Serge Ibaka, Dwight Howard, and Montrezl Harrell are big names that can be attractive during this year’s Free Agency period. Ibaka and Howard have been rumored for destinations such as the Golden State Warriors, or the Los Angeles Lakers. Even Harrell is a possibility but it’s uncertain due to the amount of cap space.

Another major report within the NBA is what’s going on with the Houston Rockets. Will the Rockets trade Russell Westbrook and James Harden? Will the Warriors be able to compete for a championship this upcoming season? Listen to what Mark and Jair have to say on the topics.

One of the biggest discussion points in this episode was this past Sunday’s game between Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Brees’ New Orleans Saints stomped on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and defeated them 38-3.

Stay tuned for more episodes of Mark and Jair Explain Sports. Both Mark and Jair will come up with several different sports topics to discuss during their podcast. Be sure to follow them on Instagram @exsportsdrexel. Also follow their personal accounts @budd98, @jair.bd, @jairbrooksdavis.

Mark and Jair hope you all take the right amount of protective measures to remain safe throughout the circumstances we face today. We are sad to see a spike of COVID-19 cases rising again. Please be sure to wear masks and use protection at all times.

Straight to the NFL

Listen to ‘Mark and Jair Explain Sports’ Online

One thing about the duo, Mark and Jair, is that Mark Budd specializes well with the NBA and the NFL, while Jair specializes in the NBA and MLB, keeping his eyes on the NHL a little bit. It’s going to be interesting to see Jair keep his focus primarily on the NFL as it’s the only sport currently on television.

This past week, Mark and Jair spoke about things going on with the NFL. It’s been reported that there were several positive COVID cases within the San Francisco 49ers. Mark and Jair expressed concerns heading into the game whether or not the game might be canceled.

Next, Mark and Jair cover the standings throughout the NFL. Mark’s Philadelphia Eagles are currently 3-4 in the NFC East but are still sitting in first place. Mark spoke about his thoughts heading into the rest of the season while the second place, Washington Football Team, may have an easier schedule.

Even though the Eagles recently defeated, Mark holds a few questions in regard to the future of the Eagles. He questions the future of Jalen Hurts and Carson Wentz and wonders who may potentially be the future starting Quarterback.

Another thing that will be interesting this weekend is how Antonio Brown does in his first game as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. It’s going to be interesting to watch the tandem of Tom Brady and Brown in their second stint together.

A Discussion on Race, Hardships and Culturalism

Logo Credit: Gabrielle Dondici

Aaaaaaaaand we are back ladies and gentlemen. We know this has been a crazy week. In the last few weeks since recording this episode; Covid-19 cases have reached numbers not seen since the start of the pandemic, John Fry has decided to open up the campus to some students in the fall, and Walter Wallace was sadly killed by Philadelphia Police which ignited days of protests, curfews, and tension.

As I am writing this in Rittenhouse square, it is Wednesday morning, the day after we were theoretically supposed to find out who our president would be. Pennsylvania, as always, is hanging in the balance and we are all “patiently” waiting to find which way it will tip. What a time to be alive.

In this episode, we get straight to the point and address some of the horror stories that Liz and I have faced growing up as minorities in predominantly white hometowns. These stories range from heated encounters in parking lots to maintaining an unwanted persona in the classroom. We also have an interesting discussion about the difference between ignorance and hate. It is important to understand the difference between the two. Moving on, we shift to the importance family plays in Southeast Asian cultures.

This was a special episode to record in the fact that both Liz and I have a very similar background. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of you. We have 2 more episodes dropping this season and we are so excited for you to hear them.

On a side note, no matter what happens, just know that we’re in this together. We’ll get through it. Stay positive and remember, the beat will go on.

It Was Only A Dream

Listen to ‘Ain’t That Something with Brandon and Liz’ online!

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for coming back! You all are awesome in every way, and we are so grateful for every last one of you. This week, we touched on our dreams. Not the “I wanna be a billionaire so freaking bad” kind of dream, but the “oh my god why am I naked in the middle of my COM Theory class?” kind of dream.

I don’t know about you, but our dreams are pretty far out there content-wise. I dream that I’m partying with Travis Barker and President Barack Obama at least three times a month. Not even kidding. Liz, who is the voice of reason out of the two of us, has more sane dreams. She’s out here dreaming about real-life issues, like pulling out her teeth, while I’m dreaming that I’m a tornado chaser while sleeping through PR Principles (sorry Professor Nikolaev).

We also talk about some crazy lucid dreams, some of which involve eating soap to try to wake up and the attempted robbery of Brandon’s childhood home (now that’s what I call a cliffhanger). It would not be an “Ain’t That Something” episode if it didn’t get deep. We take a sharp right turn into where our dreams emulate our reality. This is a very interesting episode filled with lots of “WTF” moments, and you will not want to miss this. Don’t forget that no matter how bad a dream feels, when you open your eyes you’ll realize “it was only just a dream.”

Dream on!

Liz and Brandon.

Big and Critical Decisions

Listen to ‘Mark and Jair Explain Sports’ Online

This past week, Mark and Jair discussed the outcome of the World Series after the Dodgers defeated the Rays in six games. Corey Seager won World Series MVP in the triumph that ended the 32-year championship drought for the Dodgers. They add another reason for the city of Los Angeles to celebrate.

One big topic of Game 6 was the decision from Kevin Cash to take out Blake Snell after giving up his second hit of the ballgame. Another topic was Justin Turner contracting COVID, playing with it, and coming back onto the field after the Dodgers won.

Was Kevin Cash wrong for the decision? Blake Snell didn’t go past six innings throughout the entire season. Do the Rays have one of the best bullpens in baseball? Was it time for Snell to go, or should they have been ride-or-die?

What about Justin Turner? Did he make a selfish decision that could have put people around him in jeopardy? Does he deserve to face punishment?

Mark and Jair also discussed the Philadelphia Eagles and their upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys. Mark thinks that the Eagles need to win big in order to prove what kind of a team they are.

Mark and Jair discussed Antonio Brown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A big question for the team: “Will they make it to the Super Bowl?”

Mark and Jair hope you all take the right amount of protective measures to remain safe throughout the circumstances we face today. We are sad to see a spike of COVID-19 cases rising again. Please be sure to wear masks and use protection at all times.

This past week, Mark and Jair discussed the first Game of the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers. Both hosts noticed how well Mookie Betts has done defensively throughout the postseason. Both hosts also detailed who they are rooting for personally. Currently, the series is tied 1-1 and both the Rays and Dodgers are at the neutral site in Arlington, Texas. However, for the next three games, the Rays will serve as the home team.

Mark and Jair also discussed the Philadelphia Eagles’ recent play heading into their game against the New York Giants. Mark still has a lot of confidence in Carson Wentz as a starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Both discussed whether or not their recent second-round draft pick, Jalen Hurts should be the starter for the team.

Mark and Jair discussed last Sunday’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. Another hot topic that’s been going around is the trade rumors involving Odell Beckham Jr. As for the rest of the NFL, it’s interesting to see how some records are and what place those teams may be in.

Mark and Jair hope you all take the right amount of protective measures to remain safe throughout the circumstances we face today. We are sad to see a spike of COVID-19 cases rising again. Please be sure to wear masks and use protection at all times.

Then There Were Two…Part Two

Logo Credit: Gabrielle Dondici

Listen to ‘Ain’t That Something with Liz and Brandon’ Online!

Hi everyone! I’m guessing you liked last week’s episode because you’re here for part two! We did not mean to get so heavy there at the end, but it is important to address mental health. It is not good at all to keep it in! Like the great Dr. Dre said, “I’m expressing with my full capabilities.”

Last week was a very ‘Brandon and his mental health’ oriented episode. This week, we take a deeper dive into Liz’s experience with mental health. We discuss the feeling of being a burden on those around us, what it is like to be overworked, and why we always seem to push ourselves to the brink of exhaustion. A very relevant and millennial issue.

We also discuss what it is like to gain a close friend, only to find that friendship teetering on the line between a complete fallout and remaining civil (I’m pretty sure we have all been there). Going further, we learn about growth from our traumatic situations and how everything that we go through is just a learning experience that makes us stronger in the end.

As we progress, we talk about the sacrifices that our parents went through and continue to go through in the name of our success. As we analyze that, we dive even further into what we want for our children when we become parents.

The conclusion of this two-part episode takes a very introspective look at how we perceive and process the realities that we face in our day to day lives. Thank you so much for listening each week. It truly means the world to us.

Before I close out, I’m going to leave you with a quote from Liz in this episode:

“I have to start living for me instead of living for other people.”

Just something to think about.

Much love to everyone,

Brandon & Liz

And Then There Were Two

Listen to “Ain’t That Something with Liz and Brandon” Online!

Hi everyone!

Liz and Brandon here! This is the third podcast (the second one you are hearing) that we have done together, so we have decided that the most obvious choice was to team up and become co-hosts. It just seemed like the most natural decision, you know? We are friends, our conversations are always interesting, and it’s just more organic when we are together on the show. Garfunkel had Simon, Hall had Oates, Run had DMC and now we have Brandon and Liz. We are so excited to start this new chapter with all of you, and we cannot wait for you all to hear the content coming your way!

In this episode, Liz came over so we could bake macaroons for a side project that we were working on together. In between mimosas and baking, we decided to record a podcast, haha! We first analyze the results of our Myers-Briggs Tests and discuss the stigmas the come with our astrological signs.

We also talk about the trials and tribulations of maintaining trust and effective communication in a relationship and the toxicity of long-term relationships. Who doesn’t love relationship talk? We promise that you will relate to the relationship woes in this episode. Things take a heavy turn at the end as we discuss mental health and Brandon’s transition from soldier to civilian.

We talked so much that we had to cut this into two episodes! If you thought this was great, stay tuned for the continuation of it next week. Thank you so much to all of our supporters! We appreciate you so much!

Liz and Brandon

Once Again, Lebron is a Champion

Listen to “Mark and Jair Explain Sports” Online!

This past week, Mark and Jair discussed the NBA Finals as the Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up their series against the Miami Heat. They are now tied with the Boston Celtics for the most championships, with 17 a piece.

This past Sunday, LeBron James won an NBA title for the fourth time in his career. This year’s NBA finals was unlike any other we’ve seen before. Specifically, this year’s finals were in the midst of a global pandemic. Due to that, the only fans in attendance were some family members.

The Lakers’ opponent, the Miami Heat, were short-handed through most of the series, as one of their primary scorers, Goran Dragic, was out for a majority of the series after getting injured in the first game. The Heat also did not have anyone to match up with Anthony Davis throughout the series, as Bam Adebayo was dealing with a shoulder injury he re-aggravated in the first game. Could this be the reason viewership ratings were at an all time low, or was it because there were no fans in attendance?

Mark and Jair also discussed COVID in the NFL and Mark’s Philadelphia Eagles and their recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Eagles’ next opponent is Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

In typical Jets fashion, the team released running back Le’Veon Bell after signing him to a four-year contract in the 2019 offseason. At 0-5, the Jets have become the laughingstock of the NFL and continue to have Adam Gase as their head coach, even though the team has seen zero progress. Quarterback Sam Darnold continues to struggle with his leadership despite showing flashes of greatness.

In Major League Baseball, the Tampa Bay Rays currently hold a 3-1 lead in the ALCS after their defeat to the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. It will be interesting to see the reaction for the most valuable team in baseball history when this series finishes, if they win or pull a comeback.

As for the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled in an 11-run first inning against the Atlanta Braves and are now facing a 2-1 deficit. Clayton Kershaw is supposed to start Game 4 of the series let’s see how he does. Will he put on some magic and help his legacy and help the Dodgers stay off the brink of elimination? Will it push his team towards a heartbreaking end to a season full of hope? Only time will tell.

Mark and Jair hope you all take the right amount of protective measures to remain safe throughout the circumstances we face today. We are sad to see a spike of COVID-19 cases rising again. Please be sure to wear masks and use protection at all times.
