This fall, a new flu vaccine will be available for free to University of Minnesota students, faculty and staff.
The quadrivalent vaccine, which is administered as a nasal spray, fights more strains of the flu virus than its injected counterpart. Boynton Health Service will offer both types of vaccines at its free clinics this season, but the nasal spray won’t be available in large quantities.

An investigation has revealed that pesticides killed thousands of bees across Minneapolis last month.
Now, the University of Minnesota Bee Squad and the community that housed the bees are looking to spread awareness of the effect of pesticide use on bees.
In mid-September, bees from three colonies in Minneapolis’ Kenwood neighborhood were found twitching and falling to the ground near their hives. Within the next few days, thousands of bees died, and the colonies’ potential to survive through the winter was hindered.

To Quinn, the guy who plays his own songs on the Coffman piano:
I am incredibly impressed with how willing you were to share your story and what your songs were about and how beautiful your songs turned out. I wanted to cry a little when you were speaking softly about them after you just finished singing and playing them so passionately.
Love, peace and joy your way.

The Gophers soccer team has experienced success on the field early this season, and it seems to be enjoying itself off the field as well.
Senior forward Steph Brandt thinks there’s a correlation there.
“Overall, chemistry seems better,” she said. “I think off-the-field [camaraderie] is transferring into on-the-field [success].”
The improved chemistry so early in the season may be surprising for a team with 12 new faces — eight freshmen and four transfers.

Gophers cross country head coach Sarah Hopkins likened planning the 28th Annual Roy Griak Invitational to planning her wedding.
She had a major hand in the Griak — one of the major meets of the regular season — which will take place Saturday at Les Bolstad Golf Course.
“You have to remind yourself that [the planning] is over and you just have to let it go and have fun and appreciate what is going on when it’s going on,” Hopkins said.
From a runner’s standpoint at the Griak, it’s a little easier to soak in the atmosphere.
