UMaine dining presents big plans for the future at open forum

On Tuesday, March 21, University of Maine Dining hosted two sessions of an open campus forum in the Lown Room of the Memorial Union. The events were intended to present ideas for the future of UMaine dining, as well as review proposal plans and gain further insight from the UMaine community on how to improve dining experiences across the campus to the fullest extent.

Multiple management personnel from UMaine Dining, Sodexo, and Dembling + Dembling Architects offered their visions for dining plans, some of which are already in motion.

Sodexo first came to the UMaine campus in December of 2022 and will be formally running all of the university’s dining locations by July 1, 2023. There has been notable controversy in regard to UMaine’s decision to become the final public university in the state to partner with Sodexo’s dining services, mainly due to allegations of poor employee treatment and a lack of benefits. Despite these concerns, UMaine is moving forward with the partnership and has some exciting plans for dining opportunities that will be implemented in the near future.

After seeking input from hundreds of students through tabling events and other methods of communal engagement, the areas that have been identified as key to improving the dining experience are York dining, Wells dining, Hilltop dining, and the Bears Den located in the Memorial Union.

Wells

With the expectation to reopen in the fall, Wells will be receiving some significant updates once the architects of Dembling + Dembling begin construction. Dan Dembling, president of the company, presented 3D designs and other visuals to demonstrate his general vision for the project.

Externally, there are proposed plans for an outdoor dining area located in the corridor leading to the football stadium, equipped with fire pits and comfortable seating areas. There will be many changes happening internally as well, including the addition of a 24/7 automated market, food lockers that students can pick up their food at when ordering remotely from the Transact Mobile Ordering App, and a pizza spot. Sodexo currently partners with Portland Pie Company at other campuses, but remains open to the possibility of partnering with another local pizza spot based on community preferences.

Another notable change will be the relocation of the Bear’s Den Pub & Cafe to Wells. Dining services plan to involve the class of 1944 families in this decision to help ensure that the vision of the original donors is respected and reflected in the plans.

“The Wells issue on campus has been pretty significant in terms of having it closed, and what we’ve seen is the impact on resident housing as well, so we’re hoping that bringing more of a retail atmosphere and consolidating those services to best utilize that space would bridge the gap with a lot of feedback we’ve heard of the pub being closed and Wells being closed,” said Kerry Chasteen, UMaine’s interim director of dining.

York

York dining also has notable improvements planned. However, this construction is not expected to be underway until the summer of 2024.

One of the first changes will happen right as students enter the doors of York, as students commented on concerns with long lines that often extend outside in all types of weather. The proposal includes card swipes on both sides of the welcome area, as well as improvements to the overall concept of this area so that students are not left out in the cold.

Also in response to student feedback comes new eating opportunities that include a variety of allergy-friendly and plant-based options. Some of these additions have already been successful additions to other campuses in partnerships with Sodexo. Sodexo resident district manager Tadd Stone introduced concepts called Simple Servings, Simple Zone and UCook, all of which are currently incorporated into the design plans for York.

“[The Simple Servings platform] would be its own little kitchen. It’s got all the equipment that it needs to prepare…Essentially, we can do all of our work right in that spot, so there’s no real chance of cross-contamination,” Stone said.

Simple Servings is free of eight of the top nine allergens, with fish remaining to provide a greater number of protein options. The station would also only use utensils and plates that are all purple in order to signify allergen-free items that will not be accidentally used for anything potentially containing allergens.

“[With the Simple Zone] a student could fill out a form with our dietitian and just basically say, not that they have a food allergy, but that they’ll respect the area. They’re not going to bring allergens into the area,” Stone said. This provides a space for a higher level of food safety for all students with special dietary needs.

A third opportunity mentioned was UCook, which will be an area equipped with prep sinks, hand sinks, induction cookers and more for students to actually cook their own meals at individual stations.

“One thing that we heard from students on multiple campuses, not just UMaine, [was that] some of them feel like when they’ve left to college, they’ve not been taught the necessary skills to go and get an apartment on their own…we’ve started to incorporate, not only as an option, but as an educational aspect, U-Cook…The beauty of U-Cook is that you can walk over to the salad part if you really want to add tofu to your dish, you could grab some tempe off the plant-forward station and you can bring those to the U-Cook,” Stone said.

This concept provides students with a way to choose how they want their meals prepared and also has the potential use for cooking classes if desired by student clubs and organizations.

Hilltop

Although plans for Hilltop have not been fully addressed yet, the hall is expected to have similar additions to York installed, including Simple Serving, Simple Zones and UCook. Construction will begin in the summer of 2025. The project managers are still looking for campus input regarding different foods offered across campus and whether there is a desire for potential overlap between some food halls.

Memorial Union

The final area of focus in the current dining plans is the Memorial Union. Due to an overwhelming student response that suggested Starbucks as a chain option on campus, the university expects to have a fully licensed Starbucks location in the Union by next spring, as it will take 12 to 14 months for this chain to become fully licensed and operational.

In addition to Starbucks, the Union will also have food lockers installed for remote ordering.

Other Additions

Outside of the food halls, there are a few more dining-related additions coming to campus. Food delivery robots will be roaming around by fall and will provide on-campus delivery for students and faculty ordering through the mobile app. Two food trucks have been purchased as well, with at least one arriving by summertime. There is also discussion concerning the state of the Oakes Room. However, a decision will be made on it at a later date once more information has been gathered. When asked about budget limits for the project proposals, Stone responded confidently that all current plans are fully attainable.

All of these changes bring high hopes for the future of UMaine dining as it works with its new partners to create more opportunities for enjoyable eating experiences on campus.

Additionally, there is the Community Culinary Council in the Bear’s Den Pub & Cafe on April 13. This group meets every second Thursday of the month from 1-2 p.m. and is an opportunity to share visions, feedback and taste sample menu items.

Students can also text “umainediningvision” to 82257 to join an anonymous database to share any feedback regarding these developments with dining.

Hopefully, by listening and responding to student concerns, it is ensured that with these positive advancements comes equally positive opportunities for the campus dining employees who will be needed to ensure the smooth operation of these facilities as they are completed.

Softball beats Auburn, series win over Virginia

After multiple convincing weekend shutout wins against Southern Miss. and Brown in the I-75 tournament, the Jackets hosted the No. 18 Auburn Tigers at home on Wednesday, March 8.

Coming in as the underdog in this matchup, the Jackets were glad to trade scoreless innings through the first five innings. Senior pitcher Blake Neleman threw six and two-thirds of one run softball, striking out seven and walking four.

Neleman’s outing gave the Jackets what they needed and kept the game within reach heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Jackets came to the plate with a chance to get their first ranked victory of the season. Freshman designated player Reese Hunter stepped up to the plate with the bases empty, hoping to start a rally for the team. She blasted her second career home run to walk it off for the Jackets and gave them a 2-1 victory.

Following the walk-off win against the Tigers, the Jackets traveled to Charlottesvillle, Va. to face the Virginia Cavaliers and start off conference play. Neleman continued her success on the mound, pitching four and two-thirds of one hit ball. With four strikeouts in the outing, Neleman moved into a tie for second for career strikeouts in program history with Tech legend Erin Voeltz (2001-2004). The Jackets wasted no time getting on the board in this affair, scoring a first inning run from a RBI double by junior designated player Sara Beth Allen. After the Cavaliers took back control of the lead in the third, the Jackets hit right back with a solo shot from junior third baseman Mallorie Black and a two-RBI double from sophomore second baseman Grace Connelly. The Jackets capitalized on these middle inning runs and won the game 5-2.

Needing a rest after starting consecutive games, senior pitcher Chandler Dennis started the first of two in a Saturday doubleheader against the Cavaliers. Dennis, with an 8-3 record on the season, pitched to contact and it worked to perfection. While only fanning three batters, Dennis pitched five innings of one run softball. On the offensive side, the Jackets were led by junior first baseman Abby Hughes who knocked in two runs on a single in the sixth. Right after, the Jackets called to the bench with hopes that freshman pinch hitter Jayden Gailey could extend the lead. On a full count, Gailey ripped a double to the outfield, scoring two more and extending the Jackets’ lead to three. Even after conceding a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Jackets found themselves victorious, winning the contest again 5-2. The second game in the doubleheader and final game of the weekend was not how the Jackets wanted to end their series.  After clinching the series victory over the Cavaliers, the Jackets wanted to come out and finish off the sweep. While it was a disappointing way for Tech to end the week, the Jackets picked up their first ranked win of the season against Auburn and a series win over ACC foe, Virginia. The Jackets are next in action at home in a three-game series against the Virginia Tech Hokies on March 17, 18 and 19.

Women’s field dominates Rams outdoor track and field opener

The Colorado State University track and field team competed in their outdoor season-opening meet in Pueblo, Colorado, over the weekend. Following an impressive indoor season, the Rams picked up right where they left off at the Spank Blasing Invitational at CSU Pueblo.

To conclude their indoor season, the Rams women’s team won the Mountain West Conference Championship for the second straight year. It was also the fourth straight season the Rams won the indoor championship on either the women’s or men’s side.

There was a trio of Ram women who qualified to go to the NCAA Indoor National Championship meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thrower Gabi McDonald, distance runner Sarah Carter and multis competitor Lexie Keller all represented the green and gold at the event. Carter finished No. 9 in the women’s 5,000-meter run, and Keller took No. 10 in the women’s pentathlon. McDonald finished No. 12 in the shot put.

There’s not much of a turnaround between the NCAA championship and the beginning of the outdoor season. Athletes who competed in that meet only got two weeks off before the outdoor season began. For that reason, Carter and McDonald did not compete, but Keller participated in the 4×400-meter relay.

It was a successful Friday and Saturday for those that did compete, especially throwers and jumpers.

Junior Mya Lesnar continued her streak of throwing dominance with a first-place finish and two second-place finishes. She won the shot put with ease throwing 16.09 meters, nearly 7 full feet farther than the second-place finisher. She took No. 2 in the hammer throw with a 56.68-meter mark and placed No. 2 in the discus with a 47.22-meter throw, right behind her sophomore teammate Klaire Kovatch, who threw the discus 47.62 meters.

Graduate student Jackson Morris showed up for the throws on the men’s side. On Friday, he ran away with the javelin throw placing first with a mark of 64.71 meters, more than 12 feet farther than second place. Saturday, he grabbed silver in the discus throw with a 51.52-meter throw.

The Rams swept the women’s jumping events. Freshman Jo-Anna Pinnock won the triple jump with a 12.60-meter jump, which would be her personal best if not for an illegal wind mark of +3.2 meters per second. Sophomore Taye Raymond won the long jump with a 5.77-meter mark, and senior Jordan Lanning won the high jump at 1.68 meters.

The Rams will host their first of this season’s two home meets this upcoming Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The Jack Christiansen Invitational is one of the yearly meets the Rams hold and usually includes teams like the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Wyoming, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and others.

Jury deliberations begin in Mark Ridley-Thomas trial

Jury deliberations began Friday in the trial of suspended Los Angeles City Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas. The long-time L.A. politician was accused of a months-long corruption scheme involving former Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Dean Marilyn Flynn.

During closing statements, United States Attorney Lindsey Greer Dotson said the trial was “a case about power, privilege, and lies.” Prosecutors worked to convince jurors that Ridley-Thomas’ scheme was long premeditated, while defense denied all wrongdoing, stating that “what happened at USC was legal.”

The councilmember faces 19 counts, including charges of fraud, bribery and conspiracy. The state alleged that Ridley-Thomas worked with Flynn to provide benefits for the councilmember’s son, Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, at Dworak-Peck. The younger Ridley-Thomas, a former member of the state assembly, recently resigned from his post after a sexual harassment investigation.

The state also alleged that the elder Ridley-Thomas approved various measures as councilmember as part of his conspiracy with Flynn, including a very favorable telehealth contract for Dworak-Peck, and pressured other councilmembers to vote in favor of the measures. In exchange, the younger Ridley-Thomas would allegedly get a full-tuition scholarship to a graduate program in social work and public administration, as well as a guaranteed paid professorship. The defense argued that these contracts were well underway before the harassment probe against the younger Ridley-Thomas, and that the elder Ridley-Thomas had already intended to support some measures in favor of Flynn.

While the younger Ridley-Thomas became a professor at Dworak-Peck in Spring 2018, he was fired later that summer. However, he still obtained a full-tuition scholarship for his graduate studies.

The elder Ridley-Thomas also funneled more than $100,000 in University funds to his son’s nonprofit organization, the Policy, Research & Practice Initiative, prosecutors alleged. Authorities say Flynn and Ridley-Thomas conspired to hide their scheme from the University, as it violated its policies. Flynn has already pleaded guilty for a count of bribery regarding this money.

Defense attorney Galia Amram defended Ridley-Thomas’ actions, stating that the money did not go to his son, and that the money was funneled legally. While Aram acknowledged the poor optics of the move, “the way it looks … does not make it illegal,” she said.

The two-week-long trial was widely publicized due to Ridley-Thomas’ position as a prominent municipal  politician. The L.A. City Council suspended his position in 2021 after the charges were brought forth, but he has yet to resign.

Spotify Released an AI-Powered DJ

Can you imagine opening Spotify to satisfy your musical itch, only to be interrupted by an AI DJ named Xavier? Thankfully, you may not have to, because the AI DJ is  an official feature released by Spotify for their Premium listeners. Instead of fixing the infamous shuffle feature, the people at Spotify figured that the more pressing matter was to introduce a personal AI disc jockey that plays songs you like, trending songs from different genres, and even recommend songs to you. It’s an interesting concept, but is it really as promising as it sounds?

Trying the DJ out was nothing short of shocking and intriguing. It’s obvious that Spotify was going for a radio station vibe with the inconvenience of not sitting through medical commercials and car dealership advertisements for the next five to 10 minutes. Initially, the AI DJ will introduce itself with a very convincing, human-like voice and then describe the short setlist of songs it will play for you. For example, “Alright, let’s switch it up. I got a whole set of new music that’s keeping hardcore fans on their toes these days.” Then, it’ll introduce whatever artist is going to play and the AI will do its best to keep songs in the same vibe or category.

From experience, the DJ actually does a pretty good job in keeping the short setlist fun and entertaining. Even for more mundane bands, it manages to play songs that fit a similar sound, tempo, or subgenre. Instead of queuing a song that has a stark contrast to the last one, it will maintain consistency so as to not ruin your groove.

The most convenient part is that there’s a DJ icon, a blue circle, at the bottom right of the screen that will allow you to swap the setlist for a completely different one. This way, listeners don’t have to skip a bunch of songs until they find the right one, but rather let the AI provide a setlist that might be better.

It’s also fun to see just how often the DJ mixes setlists up. One moment, it will play you nothing but songs from an artist you’ve been binging. Then, it’ll give you a setlist based on your favorite tracks from your old Wrapped playlists. Sometimes, it’ll play what your friends on Spotify are listening to, along with what other people who listen to your music are also listening to. It’s an interesting way of keeping you in the loop with the musical tastes and discoveries of others. One of the biggest upsides is how the AI will provide genuinely good recommendations for genres you actively listen to. Unlike Spotify playlists that tend to be trendier or flat out uninteresting, these tracks might actually get you hooked onto up and coming artists.

It’s important to note that Spotify has released this little DJ helper as a Beta test. It still has a ways to go before it’s perfect. After having used the DJ for many hours, one thing became apparent. Sometimes, it makes music recommendations or setlists that might be off from what you usually enjoy. Being repeatedly pelted with a genre you’re not partial to becomes cumbersome after the 40th time that week. You figured the AI would understand that you simply don’t want to listen to trending indie hits.

Sometimes, the AI  pulls listeners out from the “human DJ” immersion when band names or song titles are pronounced weirdly. Artists like GG Allin were pronounced as “Guh-ja-lin” and Nekrogoblikon was pronounced as “ne-kro-gah-bleech-ka”.

All in all, the AI function was a handy one for car rides. When you don’t have a friend with you to play the songs you’re desiring, dealing with Spotify’s subpar shuffle algorithm is annoying to say the least. The AI allows you to rely on a more effective approach to playing solid music with the relaxed intuition that the AI knows what you want to hear.

Spotify’s AI DJ is a promising concept. It has a long way to go but overall, it has given the impression that it can handle even the most nitpicky tastes or moods for track choices.

Does this ruin traditional radio in any way? No, most likely not. Remember it’s an AI, and while it can make some excellent observations, it’s not as real as a human.

You can try the feature out on Spotify’s latest update. If you can’t find it on your Spotify home screen, then just search up “DJ” in the search bar. It’s worth a shot, as it can save you the trouble of having to scroll for the perfect song.

Cowley: The Drought Isn’t Over

As part of the research done for a Can of Worms episode, our podcast team took a trip down to Antelope Island to visit the Great Salt Lake. As we drove in, the entire area looked incredibly grim. We passed dried up docks and lots of cracked lakebeds. When we stopped at a lake access point, we had to walk 10 minutes before we could catch a glimpse of any water.

For the first time since I moved here, Utah has received a substantial amount of snowfall in both the mountains and valley. Last year, I remember only seeing one or two inches on the ground even though I lived further up on campus. This year, on multiple occasions, it’s taken me 30 minutes to dig my car out from underneath a mountain of snow. One particularly bad winter storm even moved classes online for a day.

At first glance, the amount of water the valley received this winter looks promising. However, much of the state remains in desperate need of more moisture. Drought remains a pressing issue in Utah and should be treated as such.

We’re Still in a Drought!

Unfortunately, one good year of snow and rain doesn’t undo the damage of two decades of drought. About 48.7% of Utah remains in severe drought, even after a winter of heavy snowfall. Utah’s lakes are desperate for more water. Lake Powell and the Great Salt Lake remain at alarmingly low levels from the years of drought. Even with the new snowfall, the Great Salt Lake grew less than one foot in size.

The dry conditions on the west coast have taken a toll on the environment and people alike. If the Great Salt Lake continues to dry out, the sediment from the bottom of the lake could create toxic dust, making the valley uninhabitable. The lake shrinking will also devastate ecosystems, as many migrating birds take refuge at the Great Salt Lake. If Lake Powell’s water levels continue to drop, the lake will no longer be functional as a source of hydropower, depriving many in the region of power. The lack of water in Utah continues to affect the future of the state, regardless of one good winter.

A New Normal for Winter

The future of Utah winters is uncertain. It’s impossible to tell at this point if the winter we experienced this year will continue in trend. Winter storms in Utah are incredibly hit or miss. Some years are dry, others hit the valley with storm after storm. Just because this year yielded a good snowpack does not mean the following year will follow suit.

Even with a good winter, the summer months play a large role in how scarce the water supply becomes. For multiple years now, Utah summers produce sweltering and dry conditions. Utah temperatures reached record-breaking highs throughout the past summer. Extreme temperatures make drought conditions harder to control and predict, making it even harder to predict what impact this winter will have.

What We Can Do

Hoping that the pattern of snowfall and rain will continue is not enough. Utah needs to start making drastic changes in the ways it handles drought. While some reform made its way through the legislative session this year, it isn’t nearly enough to save Utah’s lakes. Most of Utah’s water still goes towards agriculture, consuming 63% of the water in the Great Salt Lake Basin. One program in Utah gives farmers an opportunity to lease their water back into the lake, but it has been a hard sell. At this point, the program needs to improve incentives and education to get people to sign on.

We also need to drastically reduce urban water use. Traditional landscaping is not meant for a desert climate, yet 60% of residential water use in Utah goes towards lawn care. Implementing more drought-resistant landscaping would not only cut down on the amount of water needed for residential use, but would also bring more water into the lakes that desperately need it.

One year of good snow and rain is not nearly enough to undo the damage of the last 20 years of drought. Our troubles are far from over. It is as important as ever to push for water conservation and water legislation reform to ensure that our state remains habitable for years to come.

Despite the heartbreak, Kelvin Sampson proud of what UH accomplished

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — April 3rd was supposed to be the night when the stars perfectly aligned for Houston.

The stage — NRG Stadium.

Legendary CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, a UH alum, on the call one final time.

A program that had fallen just short of winning a national championship multiple times would finally reach the pinnacle of its sport.

The hometown team was supposed to be the ones drowning in confetti and cutting down the nets.

A coach with a Hall of Fame resume would finally check the box that has eluded him in his 34 years as a collegiate basketball head coach.

April 3rd was supposed to be a magical night.

Then Miami stepped in and enforced a different type of agenda, making one of the country’s best defenses look lost and confused.

Nijel Pack couldn’t miss, hitting seven 3s on his way to a game-high 26 points.

ACC Player of the Year Isiah Wong poured on 20 points and Jordan Miller added 13.

Norchad Omier was too much for UH to handle in the paint, putting up a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Suddenly, it was all over for UH.

The team entered the NCAA Tournament as the betting favorite to win the national title season finished four wins shy of college basketball immortality.

A shockwave was sent through the Cougars’ system.

A team that had found a way to win all season, no matter the circumstances, finally met a puzzle that it couldn’t solve.

The locker room was quiet, full of dejection.

Tramon Mark could barely get the words out of his mouth, speaking in a near whisper with his hands over his face.

“I’m very shocked,” Mark said. “I didn’t expect us to lose. I didn’t expect for a team to score that many points on us … It’s tough to swallow that pill.”

Plenty of tears were shed as the realization of the season’s finality sunk in.

“I don’t think I’ve cried this much after a loss,” said Jarace Walker, who announced he would officially declare for the NBA Draft after the game. “We just got so close, so quick. We’ve been through so much. When I call these people my brothers I really mean that.”

For players like Marcus Sasser, Reggie Chaney and Walker, Friday night was their last time to take the court wearing the UH red and white.

They knew the moment was coming but didn’t plan on it happening for another week.

That’s what made the sting of Friday night so painful.

“It’s just a lot to take in,” Chaney said. “Everything just starts flowing through your mind. The first day I stepped on campus to the Final Four, the Elite Eight, this moment. Just knowing that you’re never going to put on the Houston jersey again, it’s a terrible feeling,”

After the final buzzer sounded, Kelvin Sampson took out a marker and wrote on the whiteboard in the Cougars’ locker room: 33-4.

Yes, UH fell short of its ultimate goal. But Sampson did not want his team to look past all that it had accomplished.

Ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time in 40 years, a mark UH occupied three different times and seven weeks overall during the regular season.

A program record-tying 33 wins.

Regular-season champs of the American Athletic Conference for the fourth time in five years.

All those accomplishments were something Sampson wanted his team to be proud of.

“I’ll go to war with this bunch any day,” Sampson said. “(Going) 33-4 (after) losing four senior starters from last year’s team and to have the kind of year we had this year is just unbelievable.

“I’m fortunate to have coached this team, and I’m grateful for being their coach.”

Listen to Gracie Abrams’ Intimate Album ‘Good Riddance’

Gracie Abrams released her first full-length album, “Good Riddance,” on Feb. 24. The bedroom pop star has elevated to a new level of stardom with her angelic voice and heart-wrenching lyrics.

Haunting Lyrics and Voice

When it comes to songwriting, Abrams is no stranger to her emotions and vulnerability. She closely follows in the footsteps of her inspirations Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift and Lorde. Abrams allows us a glimpse of her life through her vulnerable songs with intimate lyrics and stories.

Good Riddance” consists of 12 songs all written by Abrams and co-written and produced by Aaron Dessner. Dessner is famously a member of the band “The National” and produced Taylor Swift’s “folklore” and “evermore.”

Abrams opens the album with the song “Best” which describes the unrequited love she had for a past lover. The song starts with a beautiful melancholy but gentle guitar riff that somehow mimics the tone of the relationship. “Best” shines with lyrics, “You’re the worst of my crimes/You fell hard, I thought ‘good riddance.’”

Another song similar to “Best” is “Where do we go now?” With a more synthetic pop beat, Abrams admits the guilt of not being in love with the person and faking the feelings in the relationship. She sings, “When I kissed you back, I lied” and “Can’t you tell our light burned out?” What makes Abrams so appealing and different from other songwriters is that she admits her faults instead of hiding them or putting the blame on others.

Abrams experiments with more folky sounds in “Amelie.” The song describes meeting a girl named Amelie who is now a fragment of Abrams’ past. She sings about Amelie, thinking she has known her. While the song can be interpreted in many ways, I viewed it as seeing a version of yourself you no longer recognize and having to let that part of you go.

This is what the drugs are for” is another folk song about a past lover. Abrams sings about trying to get over the feeling of this person and imagines a conversation with this significant lover. With lyrics of “I’m still waitin’ by the phone/You painted my life indigo,” she recalls the love she feels for them and can’t help but wonder where they are now.

With more upbeat hits like “I should hate you,” Abrams sings about putting more effort into a relationship than her partner with the lyrics, “I wasted my breath when I tried to console you.” Another popular hit, “I know it won’t work,” has an upbeat chorus that is addicting to listen to with heartbreaking lyrics and Abrams’ fragile voice.

Painfully Good

Abrams is a rising star who will no doubt keep getting bigger and better as she continues to grow. With her painfully good songwriting skills and mesmerizing voice, you’ll only want to push the replay button again and again.
